I always enjoy an Asimov book and this was no exception. I love the way Asimov builds a futuristic world, and I thought this was a clever murder mystery story.

Minus points though for only having one very weak female stereotypical “wife” character. I know it was written a long while ago, but still sad.

Has not aged well. I didn't remember the religious stuff from the book. And the casual sexism which made me stop re-reading Foundation is apparent here too. Women were just distractions, of no consequence other than for the support of their men.

Earth overpopulation meant creation of big cities where people are confined, their privileges dependent on their jobs.Spacers, from the Outer Worlds where Earthmen are not allowed, want to introduce robots.Medievalist want to return to soil and hate the robots that are replacing them in their jobs. When a Spacer is murdered the joint police investigation by an Earthman and a robot could change Earth's future.A detective story that got me hooked.

Book Number 12 off my #BookSpinBingo board

It's always great to read Asimov - his books might be older sci-fi, but his topics are still worth to be discussed and talked about. Loved the second volume, especially for the character development and the ending.

Current stats for my #BookSpinBingo - no bingo in sight. Yet 😅
But at least I have started to read all books on the list. So finishing won't be a problem. But I'll be late again 😹

Book haul! My collection of Asimov's has become quite beat-up and when I saw these elegant new editions, I thought, why not upgrade? Never read Chris Beckett before. If you have, let me know what you thought in the comments!

This may have been written more than 60 years ago but overall it holds up very well, and is a truly excellent read. A detective and a robot get together (strange bedfellows) to solve the murder of a robot scientist. One of the earliest books about robots and have to say great future world building in this book. Very cleverly written, and kept me reading on and on. I finished this in one day. I can‘t wait to carry on with the series. Recommended.

Richryan52 You always give solid recommendations 6y
SleepyDragon This must have been where they got the plot for the movie "I, Robot," because it definitely wasn't anything in the book by that title. Lol 6y
EadieB I‘ll have to check this out! 6y

In a blast from the past I am reading some Isaac Asimov. Starting off with the first book in the R. Daneel Olivaw Series. A murder mystery with a Robot partner for Lije Baley.
I enjoyed Asimov as a teenager, what will I think now?

Picked this one up out of the little free library near my office. Can't believe this the my first time actually reading Asimov. A good sci-fi whodunit for a rainy Saturday. #scifi #saturdayreads

A Sci-Fi murder mystery. Asimov's writing is more accessible than I initially expected, there is quite a bit of personality and emotion to his robot stories, and he addresses questions of ideology and ethics surrounding AI in a way that is easy to understand and not dry or boring. I enjoyed this one, as I did I, Robot, and I look forward to more!

My first book was Isaac Asimov's Caves of Steel, a kind of Sci fi/ Detective crossover book and the introduction to two of his favourite characters Elijah Baley and R. Daneel Olivaw. Set in the future several of our planetary neighbours have been colonised, the Earth is vastly overpopulated and the Caves of Steel are enormous cities covered by steel domes; the whole thing is classic fifties sci fi brilliance and I loved it! ~Shan
