Ann Patchett
TAYLOR SWIFT ✨
Roxane Gay
Mary Oliver
The top row are Google images of the unsung women who fought for the rights we have today. The middle right are my stepmom and Grandma who are my foundation. And a few of the youngsters who give me hope that with their advocacy and voices the world may become a better place. Greta Thunberg, Amanda Gorman and X Gonzalez.

Dame Cicely Saunders was a nurse, social worker, and physician. Most importantly, she was the founder of the modern hospice movement. As a former hospice nurse, I‘m so grateful to her for her vision and for making it a reality. It was about pain control, yes, but also focused on the whole person - all of the facets that make up who we are. Hospice isn‘t a death sentence; instead, it‘s about quality of life. #independentwomen

There are more women I admire than I could possibly name or picture, but included here are: Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Ida B Wells, Frida Kahlo, Pink, Gloria Steinem, Maya Angelou, Amanda Gorman, and Kathryn Jaliman (a family friend and painter), all who have had an influence on my life.

'I have a natural gift for community life. It seems to me sane and civilised and economically right. I like to live spaciously but rather plainly, in large halls with great spaces and quiet libraries. I like to wake in the morning with the sense of a great, silent garden round me.'
- Jane Ellen Harrison, who I'd never heard of before. Considered the first modern female academic. Heroine of Virginia Woolf.
'[Women] will be able to be friends and companions in a way they cannot be now.' (Geraldine Jewsbury to Jane Carlyle, 1849)
