When Echo's father gets swept away by a freak current off the Los Angeles coast, she enters a state of paralysis. The failed young actress seeks solace in the best way she knows: by losing herself in the lives of others. This time it's with her new neighbor, a dominatrix called Orly working out of her suburban home. But Orly's 50-something houseboy won't quite let Echo slip into sweet oblivion. This is a love story about three people sick with dreams and expectations who torn to the erotic for comfort and cure. As they stumble through the landscape of desire, they ask themselves: how do I want to be loved?

Lyrical, deliberate, and often poetic... I really liked how it explored aspects of kink and sexuality without exploiting them for mass consumption. My only complaint here was pacing - a slow burn, but well worth riding the tide.

I haven't had as much time for reading lately as I wish I did... but this one has been delightful so far.

Starting something new, and off to a promising start. This author has a very poetic voice that is both stimulating and alluring... eager to see where this goes.
Additionally, the book itself has a great tactile feel to it... the pages have a unique and pleasant texture I've never encountered before.

5🌟I'm going to start by saying the writing in this is very well done!! Vogel's prose caught my attention right from the first sentence. There is explicit scenes of BDSM and Fetishism but this book is so much more than that. Big themes are grief, longing and loneliness. These characters, which I did enjoy are searching for love, and acceptance, and freedom to be who they really are. This book is mostly a character study. Aailable now!

What to say about this...it‘s about loss and about sexual exploration. About love and desire and family. The protagonist loses her father and this story is told alongside what happens when she meets her neighbor, a dominatrix. It‘s very interior, with lots of contemplation. I liked it!

After a bit of a slow start, I fell into this story of sexual exploration in the wake of intense loss.

Echo‘s father is suddenly gone: an accident on slick rocks on the California coast. She and her mother are sent reeling through grief, neither sure how to deal with their own or the other‘s.

When she meets a new neighbor, Echo feels an instant attraction. Learning she‘s a dominatrix only steeps her interest.

Soubhiville In looking at BDS&M, this book has more to say about the nature of love and respect than I would have expected from such a short book. It‘s not going to be for everyone, but if you are curious about that lifestyle, I think you‘ll enjoy it. 6y
