Taking a much needed personal day!

I finished this last week but forgot to post! I enjoyed all the geeky references and the protagonist who isn‘t ashamed to embrace them. This is a 2-part series and while some of the plot is wrapped up in book 1, there are some unanswered questions that won‘t be resolved until book 2. It was a fun read.

Predictable and repetitive. Sufficient for a fluffy read when you need a break or have nothing better going on. Liked the drag queen best friend.

Real life imitates a classic comic series in this mystery.

I enjoyed the fact that the protagonist is a comic writer and geek, but found the random fandom references a bit annoying. (It seemed like the author wanted to establish geek creds by referencing every fandom possible.) That said, this was an entertaining book and I'd read the sequel. 3.5⭐

This book was amazing! So amazing that I couldn‘t put it down and read it in just a day! A mystery meets fandom in a glorious explosion of fun. MG bothered me at first with her bad attitude towards those who aren‘t involved in fandom but grew on me and her attitude changed as she evolved in the story. Though I also don‘t understand how Matteo could be SO clueless about certain pop culture things. Still a great book and can‘t wait for the sequel!

I enjoyed this mildly #romantsy geeky mystery. Not my usual genre, but was highly recommended by @ValkyrieAndHerBooks and my RL book club picked for this month‘s read. A fun dive into comic/geek culture and all it entails. #mystery

So I was going through my pic.collage back log and realized I never shared this when I read it! I don‘t usually do very well with “casting” for books, but this one was super clear in my head at the time! It‘s one of my favorite reads so far this year, and I‘m super excited for the sequel that‘s coming out soon - 7.9.19! (Will tag the next book in the comments, if you‘re interested!)

Ultimately this was just not my sort of thing. I love the idea of applying comic levels of ridiculous to a murder mystery, but the way the case played out drove me crazy and the protagonist felt like a member of a side of fandom I try not to engage with if possible. The number of times non-fannish people were referred to as 'muggles' alone was almost enough to make me snap. I can absolutely see it working for others, it just wasn't my style.

I'm a few pages in and- this might not be my thing? I'm a nerdy woman who grew up adoring comics and cosy mysteries, so I thought that this would be a joy, but between the weirdly condescending way the main character talks about people outside of fandom and the constant random references, this feels far too much like Ready Player One to appeal to me. Hopefully it'll get better once the mystery amps up though

“I know better than to upset the Muggles. Even when they are seriously inconveniencing the rest of us in line.” This book is starting off pretty relatable 😂

Finally getting around to my #FebruaryWrapUp! Feb was a very industrious reading month for me! So many good reads to choose from! But out of the first time reads, (Because rereads have an unfair advantage!😘) The Frame Up was definitely my favorite! It checked so many of my boxes! And was wonderfully executed! I pre-ordered the second book and I‘m hoping it will be a long lived series!🤞🏼Side note: Leah on the Offbeat was my fave reread!💋

Man! I loved this book! MG, our reluctant heroin, is a snarky comic book writer focused on her career. She‘s not pleased when a casual comment at a coffee shop drags her into a police investigation about a vigilante superhero. But a turn in the investigation makes things personal. Full of witty banter, fandom references and fabulous drag queens, this story is a riot!

I really enjoyed this ebook/audiobook. It was funny and really appealed to my geeky side, not only that I loved the storyline and characters!

It was as though the author noticed the geeky/nerdy pop culture references in Ready Player One then said "hold my beer" in a fantastic way!

A quick, fun read featuring:
-Geekdom!!!
-Mystery
-Romance

This is a pick if you‘re into super hero comic book characters/stories or fun, silly mysteries (a la Janet Evanovich). Not as funny as Evanovich, but a page turner with a good romantic angle, as well. I got a little lost in the “geekdom” because that‘s not typically my thing. For me, this gets ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars (really 3.5 ⭐️).

Starting this one next. It was my Amazon “First Reads” pick for November. First time I‘m actually reading one of these picks in the month I picked it! 👍🏻📚🙂
