The Couple on Cedar Close
The Couple on Cedar Close: An absolutely gripping psychological thriller | Anna-Lou Weatherley
10 posts | 10 read | 9 to read
One sunny August afternoon, the residents of Cedar Close throw their annual summer barbecue. Children play in the cherry-tree lined street, tables are laden with food, and the wine is flowing. For Laurie Mills, its her first time meeting the neighbours. And its the first time she discovers her husband Robert is having an affair. Cedar Close has always been a nice place to live a quiet suburban street where everyone looks out for one another and bad things dont happen. Until late one evening, when Robert Mills is found dead in his bedroom. Downstairs, in their beautiful kitchen, his wife Laurie sits alone in the dark with her head in her hands. She cant remember the last few hours, but she knows she didnt kill Robert. The trouble is, no-one believes her An utterly gripping page-turner about the dark secrets that lie behind closed doors. This was like if gone girl was less well written, more predictable and had a lot of incest in it. I didn‘t hate it but the ending was very predictable from very early on and it‘s a bit wearing having it hinted at you that someone might be dodgy for five hours when you got that in chapter 1. It was pleasant enough to read but I wouldn‘t recommend.

Clwojick I love that you've been hoarding Christmas books too! Glad to see I'm not the only one! I buy them all year round 😂 2y
Emilymdxn @Clwojick wouldn‘t want to start winter games and have nothing to read 👀👀👀 2y

Book 2 in the Dan Riley series was another good one. An enjoyable psychological thriller with a great main character 😊

This wasn‘t a bad domestic thriller by any means, though I would read the first book in this series first. Definitely a case of my personal preference - stories with incest just make me really uncomfortable. #netgalley

It‘s the last day of #slumpathon and I am still slumping 😅. I‘m determined to not let me low energy get me down! I‘ve been talking to my dr about increasing my antidepressant, I‘m carrying over my reading-frenzy goal into #joyousjanuary, and I‘m switching my #bfc21 goals to prioritize drinking more water and walking twice a week. Adapt, don‘t quit is my motto for 2021! 💪🏼 Cueing up an audio while I plan out some reading for the week.

Crazeedi You are taking care of yourself! That's the important thing. Sending you a litsy hug and prayers that your spirits are lifted 3y
Reagan I really need to step up my water drinking too! Adaptation is key this year! 3y
Hestapleton @Crazeedi thank you! 💜💜 3y

Hestapleton @Reagan drinking water is so hard! 3y
TheAromaofBooks Yay!! You got this!! Also, sometimes when I'm feeling slumpy, I just go back to rereads/comfort reads/sometimes I just have to sit down and watch all three Oceans Eleven movies in a row, just whatever works!! 3y
Chrissyreadit You got this! I am working on drinking more water too. When I struggle with reading I listen to bookish podcasts. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ 3y
Hestapleton @TheAromaofBooks yes I‘ve been trying to just accept the slump and follow the flow of my energy! I‘ve been playing more video games, which usually helps. 3y
Hestapleton @Chrissyreadit I‘ve got my audiobook going - switching formats always helps! 💜 3y
TheAromaofBooks I literally can't stop playing Red Dead Redemption 2 in the evenings... I'm not really big into the actual shooting bits (my husband usually does the big shoot-outs for me haha) but I love just riding around and taming wild horses and picking herbs and crafting things and going fishing and running random stranger missions. It's so relaxing haha 3y
Hestapleton @TheAromaofBooks I love watching that game!! I‘ve been playing Halo and Doom on my husbands old PC - sometimes you just gotta shoot some aliens and demons 😂 3y
TheAromaofBooks Believe it or not, this is third time we've played through it - Tom & I enjoy playing one-person games together because we're weird like that haha But he's much better at all the shooting bits & I actually love all the tedious side quests & traveling parts. The story in this game is so fantastically done - it's almost like an interactive movie at times. Anyway, I totally agree - sometimes your brain needs a break!!! 3y
Reviewsbylola You‘ve got this! 🙌🏻🙌🏻 I increased my meds a few months ago and it made a big difference! 3y
Andrew65 Good luck, sending you positive wishes 😊 3y
Andrew65 @Chrissyreadit I‘m trying to walk more and drink more water too. 3y
Chrissyreadit @Andrew65 🙌🙌🙌🙌 We got this! 3y
wanderinglynn Good for you on adapting your goals. 🙌🏻 Like @TheAromaofBooks I will reread old faves when I‘m in a slump. Or focus on other things, like video games (I‘ve been replaying Fallout 4 and Watch Dogs). Taking care of you is the most important thing. Sending you some positive energy and good vibes that you feel unslumpish soon. 💚 3y

Thanks to #netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest and fair review. You wake up to find your estranged husband stabbed to death in your marital home. You can't remember the night. The plot is suspenseful, serves up some plot twists that you won't anticipate. A great read and a reminder that nothing is as it seems in any neighbourhood. #netgalley #thecoupleoncedarclose #anna-louweatherley #tea_sipping_bookworm #litsy #bookouture
