Although Feeling Good was written by Anthony Newley / Leslie Bricusse for “The Roar of the Greasepaint, The Smell of the Crowd”, it was Nina Simone that most listeners associate it with - she sang it with passion ❤️‍🔥

All I can say is Wow! Generally I love memoirs but this one was so different. Simone tells her story In a slightly removed voice but I think that was a part of her genius. I am not going to give any spoilers but I find it interesting how her direction changed from what she aspired to do. I always heard that she was ‘difficult‘ but it was good to hear her side of things. Loved reading her thoughts and experience of the Civil Rights Movement.

RebL Whelp, had to stack it. Two things I enjoy—memoir & NS. Thanks for the recommendation. 4y

It‘s still March and this Women‘s History Month so I think I am going to continue with the memoirs of amazing women. 🙂

Some very quotable phrases but I have a hard time with autobiographies.

Settings I'm the only one using this tag who is commenting on the book. Disappointing. 5y

(Day 18 - #FlyAway)

*I love Nina Simone‘s song “Feeling Good,” and today‘s prompt put me in mind of “birds flying high.” I haven‘t read it, but I‘m sure her autobiography is an interesting read. After all, she was such an interesting woman.

Cinfhen OMG!! I love that Nina Simone‘s song ❤️good choice 6y
gradcat @Cinfhen I know! It‘s one of the best songs ever! It‘s got such a nice jazzy, bluesy thing going on! ♥️ 6y

Day 2 - #iputaspellonyou #octoberxfiles

“To put a spell on someone" means that you are enchanting them or deeply influencing them. the 'spells' act by suggestion. A more powerful mind (yours) acting on a weeker (the other person's). And this other person needs to fully believe (Belief is a key word here) that you are more powerful and it is going to work.

Cinfhen I like that definition 🧙‍♀️🖤should help others think of book ideas 💡 6y

This is a crazy time for me! I finally bought a new car, I'm looking for a house, I just registered my son for kindergarten, and I have to prepare for the craziness of the coming summer! So, I haven't been reading a lot other than audiobooks, for which I still need to type reviews.

So happy #wonderwomanwednesday ! I give you Nina Simone! I don't actually know that much about her, but her music is powerful, and I'd like to read this autobiography.

Joanne1 I'm part way through a biography but am really struggling with it. Fascinating women but the book is so boring! 8y
