The surreal City of Angels is a unique amalgam of past and present, tradition and revolution, dreamscape and reality. Whether in history books or on the silver screen, the Los Angeles landscape has long served as an ever-shifting backdrop against which countless American anxieties and aspirations play out. New York-based novelist and short-story writer A. M. Homes distills the elusive, quixotic splendor of this most beguiling of great American cities. She checks us into the famed hotel Chateau Marmont and uses life at this iconic landmark as a multifaceted prism through which to view and experience Los Angeles culture, past and present. Built in the 1920s, the Chateau Marmont is where the famous and infamous have always come to stay for a few days or months at a timeand sometimes, to die.

#readingresolutions

It is absolutely #tragic that I will have to miss the LA Festival of Books for the second year in a row. On the other hand I am very excited to have one of my NY besties come out for a weekend visit.

Reviewsbylola That‘s definitely tragic af. 😢 6y
Nute I think I‘m going to plan a vacation around this event one year.🙂 6y

mrp27 @Nute It would be well worth it, this is my favorite book event. 6y
Rachellynnwright I know, I have to miss it too. Such a bummer! LA Times festival of books is so much fun!!! 6y
mrp27 @Rachellynnwright It is. I just have to go console myself with the fact that there is always next year. 6y

Any LA-adjacent Littens out there? @CSeydel is organizing a Litsy meetup during the LA Times Festival of Books, on April 21! She has a spreadsheet posted where you can mark your planned festival schedule (link below), then we can plan a meetup accordingly. 😊 I‘ve never made it to the Festival of Books before, so I‘m excited to finally attend as well as connect with fellow Littens in the LA area! Who else is nearby? Spread the word!

BarbaraJean @maximoffs @Trashcanman —You‘re both in the LA area, right? Are you up for a Litsy Meetup? 6y
Nute I wish with all my heart that I could just materialize at this event.😣 6y

CSeydel I think @maximoffs is in Phoenix now 6y
Cinfhen Cool 6y
Ddzmini I‘ll be there 😋 6y
BarbaraJean @Ddzmini Yaaaay! Do you know which sessions you‘re planning to attend? 6y
Ddzmini I have to look@at the schedule again but I wanted to get there early 😖 6y
BarbaraJean @Ddzmini The sessions I was looking at are in the afternoon, but hopefully we can coordinate something that works for all of us! 6y
CSeydel I looked at your lineup — my husband is taking our daughter to the Rick Riordan conversation as well! I‘m thinking either meet 11:30-12:30 before that session, or at 5:00 after we‘re done. Early is tempting because we will not be so tired, but meeting after means we can compare notes on the sessions we went to. What‘s your inclination? @BarbaraJean @Ddzmini 6y
Ddzmini I plan on being there all day so I‘ll check what session works and let you know @BarbaraJean 6y
BarbaraJean @CSeydel How fun—I love Rick Riordan! I‘m kind of inclined to say meet up around 5:00—then we don‘t have to rush off to another session, and can compare notes, too! @Ddzmini —Let us know what sounds good to you! 6y
Ddzmini So I signed up for the science Mudd 124 talk 😋 so excited for this weekend 6y

EKonrad I‘d love to if possible! 😊 6y
CSeydel @Shortstack @LauraJ @AudreyMorris @Ekonrad Yay! Ok, I‘m open to suggestions where/when to meet. Laura, we could do Saturday or Sunday depending on your schedule. 6y
CSeydel @Shortstack you have 7 weeks! Healing thoughts coming your way 💗🤞🏻 Did you have surgery? 6y
Shortstack @CSeydel nope just broke my wrist and nearly fractured my knee. My follow up is in 5 weeks to see where I'm at in the healing process 6y
LauraJ @Shortstack Ooh, you could have authors sign your cast if you‘re still wearing it! If not, it‘ll be a good opportunity to rebuild some arm strength! 6y
mrp27 I may have a conflict that weekend but if I can work it out I would love to meet up! 6y
CSeydel @mrp27 excellent! 6y
MissAimz_55 Oh for sure! 6y
Gissy I wish, I wish....But have fun!!! Pictures please!! 6y
RaimeyGallant I wish! 6y
benchley1 @CSeydel I've stopped going. It's not as good since they switched campus, and all the good authors are there Saturday while I'm at work 6y
ashsbookmarks I‘m so sad that I won‘t be able to make it this year 😭 my daughters birthday is on April 22 and already have a vacation planned for Florida. Next year for sure!!! 6y
CSeydel @ashsbookmarks oh that‘s funny! My son‘s birthday is April 22 😃 Have a great trip! 6y
AbstractMonica I‘m in Minneapolis now 😭 6y
Bookish_B I'll be there both days but I usually pack my days with panel discussions so there's very little down time. Let me know what you all have planned and I'll try to make it! 😊 6y
CSeydel @Bookish_B fantastic! It will depend on everyone‘s availability but I was picturing something like going to a coffee shop after the day‘s events are over. We can compare notes about the different panels! 6y
CSeydel @AbstractMonica Aw! Sorry 👋🏻 6y
Rachellynnwright I‘m in!! I like going both days too, but I usually keep a loose schedule and just browse around and buy books :) I‘m open to anything! 6y
CSeydel Okay, I‘m thinking in the next week or so I‘ll look over the festival schedule and suggest a meeting time/place. But I actually haven‘t been since they moved to USC, so everyone please feel free to jump in with ideas! @AudreyMorris @Shortstack @LauraJ @EKonrad @MissAimz_55 @mrp27 @Rachellynnwright @Bookish_B 6y
DreesReads @CSeydel is the schedule out? I see it when it comes in the Sunday paper, which will be the week or two before, I think. 6y
CSeydel @AudreyMorris No, but I thought I saw posted somewhere that it would be out next week? Maybe I‘m remembering that wrong. 6y
Shortstack @CSeydel sounds good! I can walk again! 6y
DreesReads Maybe it will be in this Sunday‘s paper then!! 6y
mrp27 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 6y
DreesReads Schedule is out! They shared it on Facebook. I need to get home to my computer to see it. 6y
CSeydel @AudreyMorris 😁👍🏼 6y
