A stunning debut novel about friendship and its power to make us soar Audrey Coltrane has always wanted to fly. Its why she implored her father to teach her at the little airfield back home in Texas. Its why she signed up to train military pilots in Hawaii when the war in Europe began. And its why she insists she is not interested in any dream-derailing romantic involvements, even with the disarming Lieutenant James Hart, who fast becomes a friend as dear as the women she flies with. Then one fateful day, she gets caught in the air over Pearl Harbor just as the bombs begin to fall, and suddenly, nowhere feels safe. Following the attack, Audrey struggles to reconcile her devastating lossescolleagues, friends and the piece of her heart she left in the air. She seizes the opportunity to join the Women Airforce Service Pilots, hoping to make everything shes lost count for something. The fast friendships she forms with her fellow WASP women reignites a spark of hope in the face of a war that moves closer to home every day. When James goes missing in action, those bonds help her summon the courage to cross the front lines and give her the faith that they will return statesidetogether.

Finished my #doublebookspin #doublespin for November's #bookspinbingo
My # 5 was good..started off feeling a little like an old timey romance..but turned into a great story inspired by real female pilots during World War II. I enjoyed the main character - Audrey. The grit, determination, skill, and bravery these women had during a difficult time in our country's history was pretty darn inspiring.

5 ⭐️

The WASPs were an amazing group of women and they deserve so much more recognition and it is criminal that it took so long for them to receive the military honors they deserved.

Absolutely loved this audiobook! It‘s rare that I read a book from one person‘s perspective and when I do I always seem to love it more! Audrey is a pure modern woman who is living life just as she wants, flying planes for the military and saving up for her air field.Truly a fascinating story about women who did men‘s work and not recognized until several years later!

Historical fiction about women pilots in World War II. I enjoyed learning about what the women pilots' experienced. For a first book by this author, it was good but I would have liked a little more character development.

So I always like to check the book selection at my local grocery store, and while I was scanning the books I came across this little gem! Cost at the store $13.15. Looked for it on my #Libby app but unfortunately they didn‘t have it. Checked out my #Hoopla app and I can borrow the audiobook for FREE!!! Love discovering new books!!! Can‘t wait to dive into this one!!!

Crazeedi This reminds me to check hoopla for books I can't find! Thanks! 5y
SassyBookworm @Crazeedi you‘re welcome! I try to check both Libby and Hoopla before I decide to add the book to my Amazon ebook ‘to buy‘ wish list! 5y

Excellent. I sat at the kitchen table for four hours tonight finishing this, at the expense of the housework I was supposed be doing because I just had to keep turning pages. Five stars from me for this compelling look at an unknown part of WWII history.

I guess after a month of reading cozies I am feeling more like reading historical fiction. Got these today even though I didn‘t go to Sams Club for these. And why are there so many covers with the backs of women on WW2 books? I have at least a dozen more on my shelves.

The joy of flight...bold strong women...incredible loss while waiting on one's dreams. And love finding a way again and again in the forms of friends, family, and co-workers that become family. A glorious story of women overcoming the norm of the day and doing remarkable things for their men and country.

📕 Definitely The Flight Girls, I won it in a Goodreads giveaway recently!
🎬 Up in the Air, because I adore Anna Kendrick
🎶 I wish this had not gotten “Airplanes“ by B.o.B. and Hayley Williams stuck in my head....oh well. Sounds like a good excuse to listen to a podcast!

Happy #manicmonday everyone!

What a stunning book from first-time author, Noelle Salazar. When I turned that final page, I couldn't help wanting more. I wasn't ready to say goodbye to such well-written characters. I will absolutely recommend this book be purchased at my library and all libraries! The Flight Girls would also be a wonderful book club pick!

I was given this book by the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for a review.
