so-so

I‘m getting really bored with the “will they/won‘t they” between Matt and India. India‘s whining, “Oh, I‘m just not good enough for him; I can‘t bring him down to my level” is especially tedious when it‘s obvious Matt doesn‘t feel that way, but she just keeps putting him off and won‘t tell him what she‘s feeling. The other parts of the story are gettin old too as there‘s not been much forward momentum. Least favorite book in the series.

Book Four was a quick read.

Matt and India are making progress in their search for the magicians that might help save Matt's life.

Just_reading I'm surprised by how much I'm enjoying this series. The characters feel like friends by book 4 and I just have to keep reading! 📙 4y

Update after seeing the GP.

Feeling poorly up to six(!!!) weeks is normal. Still, they did bloodwork (took them three nurses and four needles to eventually draw blood for two phiols - I used to be a pincushion in a former life). I'm not in danger of pneumonia right now. I'm supposed to keep on doing what I'm doing.
Nasty bugs going round at the moment.

Managed to read 70 pages while waiting my turn. Chuckled twice earning strange looks. 😁

GingerAntics YAY for the 70 pages...accept that‘s a while to wait. At least it‘s nothing serious. 6 weeks does seem like a ridiculous amount of time, though. You had another cold 6 weeks ago, though. 5y

julesG @GingerAntics I've had colds since mid-September. 😭 He said, there are some really nasty viruses going round these days. He thinks I caught a new one right after getting rid of the last one. The six weeks he explained as such, having the cold and being rid of it takes about ten days,not incl. incubation time. But, especially if it is a cold involving lots of coughing and mucus, it takes four weeks for the lungs to rebuild the epithelial layer 👇 5y

We actually had a nice chat about viruses, possible anti-inflammatory treatment, whether it would actually work in my case, Yada Yada - - - I caught a glimpse of my electronic chart. It says for profession: university lecturer of English and sciences, which is not correct, but he talked to me without dumbing down the info as most other doctors do (they all underestimate me). 5y

julesG @GingerAntics I actually liked that he didn't hold back on the lingo either. Maybe he even got my measure early on when I told him that I wasn't looking for antibiotics since they don't work with a virus infection anyway. That might have made him check out my "profession" slot in the first place. 5y

GingerAntics It‘s amazing the number of people who don‘t know that. Well, I suppose we do want your lungs protecting themselves. All these viral bugs going around is annoying, though. 5y

julesG @GingerAntics I'll talk to the receptionist about the profession thing another day. Anyway, I guess especially doctors talk differently to patients of seemingly low educational background. Another factor, especially in Germany, we have a plethora of layman terms for body parts, body functions health problems. A patient using the term "pneumonia" rather than the layman equivalent (lung inflammation - my translation) is rare. In most cases doctors? 5y

julesG @GingerAntics have to dumb the information down, translate it into layman's lingo. So it is rather refreshing for both sides when that is not needed. Most of the doctors I see regularly know they can talk to me like to another doctor, but today I saw the other GP in my GP's practice, and we hadn't met before. So, he did admirably well for our first encounter. 😁 Guess that astonished me the most. 5y

GingerAntics That‘s good!!! Maybe there is a note in your chart or something. “Just use medical terms.” lol Most Germans don‘t know the term “pneumonia”? Wow. That seems really weird. Most Americans know that term. Hm. (edited) 5y

julesG @GingerAntics Or Abdomen, Appendix (the gut part), radius, ulna, clavicle,.... We have German words for bones, organs, illnesses, medication,... Basically, a doctor in Germany has to learn all the Latin terms, and/or technical terms, and the German equivalent (which aren't always accurate, too). Just think of how a pediatrician talks to a kid in their practice, they need to explain some of the medical lingo with simpler words. It's like that. 😁 5y

GingerAntics I get that for kids, but for adults? I know for less common things they do have to explain what it is, but it never gets any simpler than “broken leg” vs naming the actual bone. That‘s interesting. I feel bad for German doctors now. 5y

julesG @GingerAntics Just that I've refused to be talked to like to a kid long before I was an adult. Puts lots of doctors off-kilter, annoys a lot of them too. Some of them still think they are demi-gods in white robes and the patient is a mere mortal. 5y

julesG @GingerAntics I understand a "broken femur". But they would most likely say "broken thigh bone". It's okay. It's just when it gets to nastier stuff, like pneumonia, that people/the mere mortals often fare better with the layman terms. 5y

GingerAntics 🤷🏼‍♀️ I suppose it‘s just what is. I‘m sure everyone knows pneumonia here simply because doctors used to (and some still do) like showing off how much smarter they were by using the Latin/technical terms. Enough people asked what they meant, word got round, now they don‘t sound so fancy anymore. 🤷🏼‍♀️ It‘s probably less assholeish the way they do it I‘m Germany. 5y

Still ill. Or again. Who knows. Played the "I'm on immunosuppressive medication" trump card on the phone with my GP. I can come in tomorrow morning.

It feels like I've been in an on-off-relationship with the cold bugs since October.

Plus side, I get a lot of reading done, just started book 4 of the Glass and Steele series. #TotallyBookRelated
