I absolutely love my copy of Bulfinch‘s Mythology. It‘s full of #yellowedpages and exceptional illustrations. And such a great cover! It‘s my most prized book. I wish I knew what edition it was. It‘s missing a page!

Here goes my small but nonetheless very fine choice of my tbr for November! Daily life keeps me quite busy during the week and I'm not a fast reader. Have to admit that the Masterpieces of Japan is something I don't read much, but rather enjoy visually. The workday is over and finally I can mingle with the gods again! Do you have a favorite story of the Greek or Roman gods? Or any other mythology? I'm always thankful for recommendations!

I-read-and-eat No favourite God (maybe Artemis) but my favourite character is Greek tragedy is Elektra. A dangerous woman to cross. 8y

I-read-and-eat @Tsubame Elektra is Agamemnom's daughter. As you may know Agamemnom sacrifices his daughter ipheginea for favourable winds in the Iliad. When he comes home his wife, Klytaimnestra kills him for this. His young son Orestes is send away but is daughter(s) Elektra (sometimes with sister Chrysothemis ) stay in Agros. 8y

I-read-and-eat Elektra chooses her father's side and when Orestes comes back they plot the murder of Klytaimnestra and her lover. Orestes carries it out. 8y

I-read-and-eat There are three tragedies about Elektra. Aeschylus' Choephoroi , Euripides' Elektra and Sophocles' Elektra. Sophocles' version is my favourite it depicts Elektra as a strong willful woman. But they are all worth reading. What I like most about her is how different she is in each play, every poet took a different perspective. She is relateable in Sophocles and basicly crazy in Euripides. 8y

Greek mythology started to enchant me when I began studying History of Art. Before I've been barely in touch with it, but even now many years after graduation the stories of the gods still keep a tight grip on me. Looking back I can't help but wonder why none of my professors ever recommended this entertaining and yet sound compilation. The only pity are the b/w photos, but the stories are very well told.
