Part of my issue was the narrator. While she did okay on voices for the characters, she had an odd cadence that bugged me. As for the story, it took until chapter 6 to get to the wager. And the. I felt the story rambled. I liked Jeremy but thought Betsy was a bit bland. I just got a bit bored.

Book 6 for #joyousjanuary

Just finished a long fantasy and was craving a historical romance but was being pretty indecisive until I remembered I still have a small hoard of library books from last year (don‘t worry they‘re not overdue) including one of the Wildes I hadn‘t gotten to yet. That‘s that sorted.

Betsy has the story of her mother hanging over her head and wants to get out of it's shadow. Jeremy has a bad case of PTSD and the Wildes are truely being wonderful to him. This two had fun banter and some heavy backstory to contend with. A nice afternoon read. #romantsy

@EloisaJames does it again! This was more of a slow burn and I really enjoyed the build up. I loved the characters and the ending. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

I loved the twist at the end! Luckily, I have at least four more of her books on my shelves, because they are awesome!

The heroine annoyed me a lot for at least half of the boom and I never got over that. It feels a little bit like James is running out of steam and fresh ideas perhaps. Which is a shame because she‘s been consistently one of my favourite historical romance authors for about a decade. But these things happen and the genre moves on and so do your reading tastes I guess.

I usually love Eloisa James, but this book didn't do it for me. There was a quasi-love-triangle for most of the story, which isn't my favorite, and the villainous cousin plot line is a bit over-the-top as well. In sum: outwardly proper sister of the notorious Wildes of Lindlow Castle is ready to marry, and her match may be her brother's war-damaged friend who gets on her nerves.

@EloisaJames wrote another charming, funny, entertaining book about the Wildes. This was a fast read, and I really enjoyed our heroine and her desire to be allowed the agency men in her world had.

As much as I love to read, I do not sit still well. Thank you for audiobooks! Yardwork and another fun Eloisa James tale! Almost done with the mulch and lavender is in full bloom! It‘s a much better day!

OMG!! It‘s Betsy & Jeremy‘s story!! I loved Jeremy in the last one!!

Probably my favorite Wilde of the Lindow castle! Betsy is amazing, she‘s fun, she‘s sometime broken, and wild without the E. Jeremy is handsome, broken, and one of my favorite romance heroes because once he finds what he wants he doesn‘t let problems change his mind! I loved the drama and fun in this story, who doesn‘t love a good love triangle? Where have those been? I want more from this family, and this author! It‘s been a fun romance weekend!

Book 2 done for #24in48! I love a good romance and this one is excellent. The fantastic use of female gaze and our female protagonist learning to not be ashamed of it is inspiring. Definitely one of my favorites of 2019! #romantsy

5 hot and fiery stars!! 🔥 Say No to the Duke is the 4th novel in The Wilde‘s of Lindow Castle series and (yesss!) is the first book in this series with a female lead character—Lady Boadicea (Betsy) Wilde. A wonderful story all around but very unique with the issue of PTSD addressed. I especially enjoyed the pokes of fun and steamy love/hate relationship going on between Betsy and Jeremy! Can be read as a stand alone.

Finished the second Murderbot book (Love!), and read two more essays in What My Mother and I Don't Talk About. Now on to something completely different!

Forgot I preordered this! @EloisaJames is my favorite romance writer. Very excited to read this next.

I love the way she makes romance writing seem easy. The central romance was sweet (despite the dark theme of PTSD), and I smiled throughout. Her supporting cast was fun - and also pulling on the heartstrings in parts- too.

I loved this continuation of the story of the Wildes. Lady Boadicea, named after the warrior queen, presents a totally different face to the world. Afraid of being lumped in with her mother, who ran off with the help and left her children behind, she debuts for her season with modest and grace. But she's not fooling Lord Jeremy, a family friend who is staying at the castle while recovering from complications of his PTSD. Sexy, sweet, funny!
