This winner of the Newbery Medal and the National Book Award features Stanley Yelnats, a kid who is under a curse. A curse that began with his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather and has since followed generations of Yelnats. Now Stanley has been unjustly sent to a boys' detention center, Camp Green Lake, where the warden makes the boys "build character" by spending all day, every day, digging holes five feet wide and five feet deep. It doesn't take long for Stanley to realize there's more than character improvement going on at Camp Green Lake: the warden is looking for something. Stanley tries to dig up the truth in this inventive and darkly humorous tale of crime and punishmentand redemption. From the Paperback edition.

Probably my favorite adaptation! Kept the spirit of the book, but adapted some things to take advantage of the medium!

And I actually just watched this with my nibling a couple days ago and they loved it!

There is no lake at Camp Green Lake. There once was a very large lake here, the largest lake in Texas. That was over a hundred years ago. Now it is just a dry, flat wasteland.

Of a novel called „Holes“ I actually did not expect much but I have to admit I was proven wrong. I really liked the background story with the curse. It was quite funny at some points. Now I am going to watch the movie.

Newbery Medal Winner & National Book Award Winner. Published 1998. This is one of my favorite movies and books of all time. I think it‘s a great book to learn valuable lessons from while also taking you on a fun, crazy adventure of a boy under a curse. This book would be great for older kiddos!

Holes by Louis Sachar is a classic story and a great movie... about a young man who is sent to a boot camp and struggles to accept his past and why he is there.

I loved this book when I was younger and think it would be a great read-aloud for older grades.

Holes is a Newberry Award winner

Connotation and Denotation

Camp Green Lake is the connotation because there‘s no lake but it used to be in the past but go into a drought and has a big backstory in the book.

The denotation is that it is no lake. Said Stanley

Three days after Sam‘s death, Miss Katherine shot the sheriff while he was sitting in the chair drinking a cup of coffee.

This shows the tense mood from this character doing the action of killing

I‘ve had to read this book so many times not because it doesn‘t make any sense it‘s because it‘s so good especially if you have seen the movie. It‘s about a boy who get accused for stealing a pair of shoes that belonged to a famous baseball player that were donated to a homeless shelter for auction. but instead of going to jail he goes to camp green lake where he is forced to dig one big hole each day. It‘s a great book totally recommend!
