This has been a wonderful, very poetic book. It describes the life of two kids born in and off the desert one hundered years apart. Both face struggles and end up back where they belong - in the desert. This book is a beautiful allegory of the desert, I haven‘t been something that aesthetic in a long time.

I found the way this all worked out a bit... obvious? Predictable? But it was satisfying to get there, and I do enjoy Lee Knox Ostertag's art.

Here‘s my review for this book I just finished reading. This was the April book for the #naturalitsy buddy read. I‘m 3 months behind on the buddy read because I haven‘t read the May, June, July books but I‘ve now read the April book. This book was short which is great for me. I don‘t think I‘ll get around to reading the August book because it‘s taking me a long time to read these books for the buddy read.

AllDebooks Great review. Please don't feel pressured into reading all the books. #Naturalitsy is a relaxing, supportive group focusing on the natural world. It's okay to pick and choose which books you want to read. x 3mo

I‘ve read the first 3 books on the list but now, I‘m 4 months behind on the #naturalitsy buddy read. I haven‘t had time to read the Apr, May,June,July books. The Land Of Little Rain wouldn‘t take me that long to read. The audiobook for that book is only 3 hours. Will I catch up? I hope so.

TheBookHippie I got Aprils book in picture form from the library. Gorgeous .. I‘m behind as well. 🙃 3mo

Here‘s how I‘m doing on the #naturalitsy buddy read. I‘ve read the January, February and March books. Now to catch up, I‘ll have to read the April, May, June books and maybe the July book if I have time. I don‘t know how long it‘ll take me to read them because it takes me awhile to read nonfiction. I hope I can eventually catch up with everyone else who is participating. I‘d like to be able to participate in the discussions.

I‘m behind on reviews & discussion but I finished this for April‘s #Naturalitsy #BuddyRead I borrowed an ebook copy from the library & it‘s a quick & interesting book of essays about the Owens Valley & Mohave Desert in California. Written in 1903, it‘s wonderful nature writing & while my version may have suffered for lack of photos, the writing was descriptive enough to make me see it in my mind. While reading ⬇️

DebinHawaii …& stopping to Google more details, I found out/realized that From 1942 to 1945, during World War II, the first Japanese American Internment camp operated in the Owens valley at Manzanar. Maybe it‘s only interesting to me because I grew up reading & rereading the book tagged below but I like when I can tie books together. A enjoyable read overall, I would buy a print copy (hopefully with pictures) for my shelves. (edited) 6mo

julieclair Didn‘t get to this one this month, but want to. Too many books… too little time… 6mo
TheBookHippie I learned a lot from this read and I had the photography book of this- HUGE BOOK - so you could read and almost jump in the picture. I did read it in bits and I think that‘s the best way. Librarian said it was dry but I didn‘t feel that way. I found it informative. 6mo
TheBookHippie lol look at the questions - I always found desert BORING and now I can see beauty- like I said having the massive pictures made you live in the photo and is brilliant way of understanding the author. Does the author like people? Maybe not. I don‘t think it matters. 🙃 could be me reading in it‘s been a bit much here in life. 6mo
AllDebooks @julieclair I hear you x 6mo
AllDebooks @TheBookHippie I bet the photos made a huge difference. I agree with your librarian. I read it in one sitting and got a little bored. Would be a better read by dipping in and out. I loved the botanical sections. 6mo
TheBookHippie @AllDebooks Oh for sure the dipping in and out. Some of the photographs are just amazing my grandson and I read through it over 4 weeks I don‘t think it‘s meant to be a sit and read book. Then I agree it‘s a bit no thx 6mo
