Gothic aesthetic dream. Great world building. Terrific plotting. Great representation. Would read again.

There were parts that were definitely good. Overall though the story was on the breathless side. I felt it could have been shorter and still told the story it wanted to tell.
Representation matters! Kamai‘s no sexual interest was a set of the plot in a good way. Usually sexual attraction is used poorly. This really is quite a dark fantasy story with incredible back logging off information. Which came back in the end clearing it all up. Very surprising. I felt her story so much, growing up so confused as to why she is the way she is. Her questioning her asexuality. Let alone Nikhal‘s incredible backstory #lgbtqa
“These are the four branches of your deepest self. For two of them, imagine that the new moon signifies female and the full moon male. […] for the other two, imagine that the new moon indicates an absence, and the full moon a presence”
first branch: how you are yourself female to male or any in between
Second: who you‘re drawn to
Third: how much you feel romantic attraction
Fourth: how much you feel sexual attraction
I like how this is presented
I picked up this book solely for the fact that the woman is asexual-or at least coming to terms of it. Second is because of the magic of soul walking - the rut of walking into another‘s souls while they slept. Kamai can do this. She finds that a black door follows her each time she soul walks, and after horrid things happen, she opens it. To which a secret is unleashed that threatens not just her souls, but the whole kingdom. It‘s a dark fantasy
Thank-you @morgankaileigh1 for the #hhs box! This book has been on my TBR for awhile, and the sweater weather mug is adorable!!😃📚🎃 #hauntedhollowswap @wanderinglynn
#pricedrop! I've heard some good buzz about this one -- it has an ace heroine! But it's also written in first-person POV, and YA isn't my jam. hmmm.

Beyond the Black Door is a delicious fantasy that is original, imaginative and highly entertaining. The writing is gorgeous and passionate, the characters bold and relentless, and the plot is seamless. Fans of Splintered and The Archived would do well to put this book high on their TBR lists. This was very close to being five stars for me, which is a rare feat. 😍 I'll host a giveaway for this book on insta soon!
Oh Boy! this was an amazing story. It kept me on tenterhooks the entire time. This story is fascinating, the writing style is crisp and clear. The world is awesome, filled with loads of mythical elements. It has asexual and trans representations and that's done in an unapologetic, excellent way. These are my snacks, I had more slim jims but I already ate them lol, and my planned books for the weekend. Beyond the Black Door is also one but it's on my kindle too and couldn't picture both books. I'm at about 20% in each book so hoping to finish them this weekend!
This is an interesting read so far! I'm at 28% through and I'm really enjoying it. Hopefully it keeps going in this direction!
Spirals and spirals. Got Beyond the Black Door today in the mail and started to panic that I already had a copy. Nope, just a cover trend I guess. Looks like they have my number! 🤣
No idea what this is about, but I love the Dark over light, and the beautiful spiral staircase. The girl running down the stairs screams Peril!!
Out October 28
