I really enjoyed this second book in the Dr. Siri Paiboun series. The characters are great, the plot is fast-moving and I'm learning about Laotian culture (albeit that of the 1970's when this story is set).

I enjoy this series. Dr. Siri's irreverent humor toward #Laos Communist bureaucratic paperwork tickles me. I also like how the spirit world helps Dtui and he solve crazy murder mysteries. On to Book 3.

#AwesomeApril seems to be full of ā€WHAT did I just read?!‘ reads.

1976. Dr Siri, the national coroner of #Laos, investigates what appear to be some killings by bear, with the help of spirits, puppets and his morgue assistants.

These are really enoyable reads, if more a little out-there!

Got a bit dark towards the end, though. (And of course one day I will actually read something by a Lao author!) This is the first in the series š‘‰:

For today's #backtoreading, I have been enjoying #FollowTheClues with Dr. Siri and his colleagues during 1970s Laos. Colin Coterill does a fantastic job of creating an intricate web of characters and giving a sense of what the beginning stages of communism looked like in Laos. Also, there is a spiritual/supernatural component to the books which I love. These are fun mysteries without too much of the gore. Loving the series so far. Rec'd by my mom!
