I consider myself a minimalist, both in terms of my physical possessions and my online life. I frequently unsubscribe from emails and declutter my social media profiles, but I realized that I have never taken the time to go through all the Litsy accounts I followed to declutter the inactive users. It took a few hours, but I unfollowed 671 accounts that have been inactive for a year or more (many have been inactive for 3-4 years!) ⬇️
candority It‘s sad to see how many people have left the platform - especially people that I remember interacting with when I first joined. Maybe they‘ll come back someday and I‘ll refollow! This was definitely a process, but I feel happy having done it. I think it might be nice if Litsy added an “Inactive” tag or something beside the Litsy handle if an account hasn‘t posted for a year or more, but I don‘t know if that would be useful to anyone but me 😂 (edited) 3y

candority @Crazeedi Do it! I highly suggest watching something or listening to a podcast/audiobook while you work. It didn‘t seem to take as long that way 😊 3y

Texreader I periodically try to do a cleanup too. I don‘t know why it matters, but it appears I‘m not the only one! I too want my list to reflect folks who want to share Litsy with me, not just a number accumulation. Yea I miss a lot of folks who‘ve disappeared but I treasure even more those who‘ve stuck around!! 3y
ImperfectCJ I'm slowly doing the same thing. I'm trying to do it little by little because I worry I'll cut too many if I get fatigued. I should try it with an audiobook in my ears. 3y

Megabooks I was following 10k accounts because I was a suggested user (for perspective over 19k people follow me). I unfollowed 3k people about a year ago who had made accounts and never posted or posted once or twice three years ago. I felt much better! 3y

BarbaraBB I check my following once a year or so and unfollow anyone who has been inactive that year. I try to keep my following low in orde to not miss posts of my friends and great books among all the memes 😀 3y
Megabooks @BarbaraBB there are definitely a lot that may be bots and also I think a lot of people who saw the first announcements 4 years ago made a login and never did anything with it. I think that happens more rarely now. People who come at this point generally contribute, which is fantastic!! 🎉 3y

umbrellagirl I used to always follow back and ended up with a lot of people whose reading tastes were nothing like mine. And there were loads of inactive accounts as well. 3y

candority @umbrellagirl Same! If a new user follows me now, I usually wait a little while to see if they actually post a few times before I follow back. Somewhat related, I‘ve found it really beneficial to mute some hashtags so my feed isn‘t just flooded with games and stuff I‘m not interested in. 3y
