A Letter of Mary
A Letter of Mary: A Novel of Suspense Featuring Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes | Laurie R. King
14 posts | 38 read | 1 reading | 8 to read
The third book in the Mary RussellSherlock Holmes series. It is 1923. Mary Russell Holmes and her husband, the retired Sherlock Holmes, are enjoying the summer together on their Sussex estate when they are visited by an old friend, Miss Dorothy Ruskin, an archeologist just returned from Palestine. She leaves in their protection an ancient manuscript which seems to hint at the possibility that Mary Magdalene was an apostle--an artifact certain to stir up a storm of biblical proportions in the Christian establishment. When Ruskin is suddenly killed in a tragic accident, Russell and Holmes find themselves on the trail of a fiendishly clever murderer. Brimming with political intrigue, theological arcana, and brilliant Holmesian deductions.

September was a little bit of a rough month, so all I did was listen to Audiobooks. All 6 of these were borrowed from the public library on #Libby.

Favorite: A Letter of Mary by Laurie R. King (re-read)
Least Favorite: Simply Love by Mary Balogh

Book 51 of the year, finished?, Audio

The more I read, the more I love Mary.
King has done a fantastic job of expanding on the Holmes stories. This series will definitely be a permanent fixture in my library.

This time a friend of Mary and Holmes is killed and the two work hard to uncover the mystery of her death.

This is the 3rd book in the Mary Russell series. I loved the 1st book, was incredibly disappointed in the 2nd, so I was hesitant to read this one. I‘m so glad I decided to dive in! The writing was excellent. The characters showed growth. We revisited familiar faces but without dwelling so them for so long that it was just an attempt to recreate Doyle‘s work. Mary is the star of the series and seeing Sherlock through her eyes is interesting enough.
