This YA fantasy has pirates, witches, mermaids, and so many diverse characters. The novel follows a few character arcs including Imperial born Evelyn, orphaned non-binary Flora/Florian, and a pirate, Rake. We also get interludes from The Sea. I adored the writing in this book, the diversity, and the interesting lore. 4/5!

Thank you, @shortsarahrose for recommending this for #auldlangspine #alspine I look forward to reading more from your list!!

shortsarahrose Yay! So glad you enjoyed this one. I read it last year because it was on my #AuldLangSpine list from @peanutnine 3mo

shortsarahrose I hope you enjoy it! It‘s a good spooky read. I‘m really enjoying Fourth Wing so far! My library loan ran out though, so I have to wait to get it back. I did just get Horrorstör, so I‘ll start that while I wait. 3mo
Lin3han @peanutnine it was so lovely!! I want a whole book about the Xohibe and The Pirate Supreme. Their story is so fascinating @shortsarahrose 3mo
peanutnine @Lin3han @shortsarahrose there is a sequel/companion novel that came out late last year, I still need to read it 3mo
shortsarahrose Also, I haven‘t read it yet, but a sequel to this one came out towards the end of last year 3mo

I enjoyed this, though it did start to fall apart about half way through. It had a very strong start with tight writing and pacing and then it started to meander. It was still a good read but it could have been better.

A high stakes adventure with amazing world-building and an exploration of mythology and lore, this was a fantastic amalgamation of magic and pirates and queer love stories. I can't even begin to describe the layers of nuance this book has, but I was invested in the characters' journeys and loved every minute of it.

It took about 100 pages to pick up (sea pun intended), but then it was a fun and eventful race to the end with several unexpected turns.

I think I've tried 3 times to get into this one? The cover is gorgeous, the premise is cool and a have a friend who keeps recommending it... but it just isn't working for me. I got 80 pages in before I quit this time

Starting the year out strong with a very enjoyable read from my #newyearwhodis list from @AbigailJaneBlog ! This was a lot more violent and bloody than I expected from the cover and title—but the prologue in which one of the main characters cuts a man‘s throat certainly sets the scene. I loved the romance between Evelyn and Flor(i)a(n) and the twistiness of the plot. I wasn‘t super enthused about the ending, but I‘ll definitely read a sequel.

AbigailJaneBlog I felt exactly the same by the ending, it was just too rushed and didn't really end things very well. But the rest was just too good not to recommend 3y
Clare-Dragonfly @AbigailJaneBlog I was still mad about Evelyn dying even if she did come back as a mermaid, and it just made no sense to me for Flora to be a mermaid! The Genevieve bits were obviously setting up for a sequel but I see potential for a wonderful character arc in her. 3y
AbigailJaneBlog @Clare-Dragonfly exactly! The end was like some kind of wisj fulfillment happy ending but it just didn't really work. 3y

Here‘s my #bookspin list! Featuring selections from my #newyearwhodis list, a book club book, a book I‘ve been meaning to finish, and a few books that will help me meet some of my 2021 book goals. Maybe in January I‘ll get a #bookspinbingo? I live in hope! 😂

TheAromaofBooks Yay!! Good luck!! 3y

Reading while stretching is not possible?

It is!

Enjoying an #ARC while stretching my hips.

Happy Sunday!

rockpools This is a skill I need in my life! 4y
julesG @rockpools I stretch while reading one page, come out of the stretch, turn the page, stretch. This way I manage to do the 5min my physiotherapist prescribed. #lifehack 4y
rockpools @julesG Brilliant! I started doing a stretch-routine-thing a couple of months back & really like how I feel after, but persuading myself to do it regularly is an effort. Maybe I should give it a go - might work with the P&P chapter-a-day thingy🤔 4y

julesG @rockpools Give it a try. It doesn't work for all stretches, but doing the "cobra" or "sphinx" works fine. As do quad stretches with the kindle propped on the shelf I'm standing opposite. ? 4y
rockpools @julesG I‘ll let you know how I get on! 4y
Soubhiville I do audiobook-yoga all the time! 4y
julesG @Soubhiville That, too. That was an ARC, so no audio. And to be honest, I need to trick myself into reading the ARCs and doing my stretches. 4y
