Saw a great adaptation of this the Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival yesterday. We dug out our old copy from an out-of-the-way bookshelf to reread it afterwards. A witty collection. 💜

This collection is wonderful, fairytales, myths, feminist and snarky.
This is one I‘m going to have to buy myself, I love it that much and it‘s a great start to poetry month.

Jan. 13 #LitsyPoetry365 One of my all-time favourite poets. I'll forever be thankful to my friend and colleague who invited me to her reading in Mexico. Her feminist views, word play, creative perspectives, varied structures and downright brilliance make her a woman I look to for inspiration and courage. Duffy's authorial prowess is on full display in this tongue-in-cheek poem.
so-soThe poetry in this collection is definitely well crafted, witty and intelligent. I love the idea of the overall theme to look at wives of famous men (be it mythological, historical etc.). But in the end I felt there were also limits to the approach (at least in the way Duffy took it on) which kept the whole collection rather heteronormative. (Also the idea that good sex is rather experienced with the 'bad' men was at best boring).
I'm not a big reader of poetry - and I need a study guide for some of these - but I loved this in Carol Ann Duffy's collection of poems about wives and women.
