All That I Am
All That I Am: A Novel | Anna Funder
Award-winning author Anna Funder delivers an affecting and beautifully evocative debut novel about a group of young German exiles who risk their lives to awaken the world to the terrifying threat of Hitler and Nazi Germany. Based on real-life events and people, All That I Am brings to light the heroic, tragic, and true story of a small group of left-wing German social activists who mounted a fierce and cunning resistance from their perilous London exile, in a novel that fans of Suite Francaise, The Piano Teacher, and Atonement will find irresistible and unforgettable. An intimate exploration of human connection and our responsibility to one another. Colum McCann, author of Let the Great World Spin

I had heard of some of the IRL characters in this novel- but didn‘t know enough about them to be second guessing facts!
I thought it was a good inter-war novel, focused on German anti- Nazis.

Very late with my #BookReport and #WeeklyForecast this week 😬I am #audioquilting whilst listening to All That I Am. Reading and enjoying A Gentleman in Moscow and next on the list is Kiss of The Spider Woman.
The quilt is for a fundraiser for our local fire services after weeks of bush fires here in Aus.

Cathythoughts Tagged book sounds good ! Beautiful quilt ❤️ 4y
Freespirit Thanks @Cathythoughts I usually don't quilt much in summer, but I wanted to donate it to the RFS 4y
Cinfhen That quilt looks beautiful 🤩and even more special knowing it‘s for charity 🥰 4y

On paper, I should have loved this book. Interbellum Nazi fighters, hell yeah! In reality, it was somehow both turgid and flat, the dual narration failed dismally to create any contrast between the voices, and I was bored to tears throughout. I only finished because I was reading it to tick a challenge box. I have no idea why this received all of the praise it did, but à chacun son goût I suppose. Onwards.

#indiebuddyreads I knew I had this book. Took me about an hour to find, I thought I was going crazy. Interested in it because the MF long list comes out today. 😊

Neale @AceOnRoam I‘m the same Ace. I can remember enjoying it, but can‘t remember details. 😊 6y

Miles Franklin award winners - I've read and loved all of these, except Voss, the inaugural winner in 1957. I don't know if I've read this year's winner - it will be announced tomorrow! #bookpairings #fallintobooks

Joanne1 Loved the Great Fire and All That I Am, but I'm really not a Winton fan at all. I've never even hear of Voss, perhaps I should check it out. 7y

Brilliant. Powerful. Well-told.

A story set during and after WW2, Funder's story--while having a typical nostalgia for a certiain idea of Sydney--is captivating, thought-provoking while still being fun to read.

#feistyfeb #Australianauthors

If you haven't yet read Tim Winton or Hannah Kent, you must. Shirley Hazzard's 'The Transit of Venus' is one of my favourite books. Annabel Crabb is funny & wise. And The Narrow Road to the Deep North by Richard Flanagan is sublime. 👌🇦🇺

Cinfhen So much #BookEnvy today and it's just past noon! 7y
Abailliekaras @Cinfhen ha ha! There are some definite highlights there, and some I haven't read yet... Always hard to keep up! 7y

Among the detritus of book club the discussions eddy & swirl around war & love & betrayal. This novel was based on real people who took a stand against hitler in their time. Recommend if you like WWII era fiction
