In this intimate portrait of an island lobstering community and aneccentric band of renegade biologists, journalist Trevor Corson escorts the reader onto the slippery decks of fishing boats, through danger-filled scuba dives, and deep into the churning currents of the Gulf of Maine to learn about the secret undersea lives of lobsters. This P.S. edition features an extra 16 pages of insights into the book, including author interviews, recommended reading, and more.

An interesting look at lobsters and the lobster fishery. I learned a lot about how lobsters communicate and reproduce—and the take-charge role that the female lobsters play in the process. This book was published in 2004, so the typeface feels dated and there may be newer developments in lobster science. Still, this is worth a read.

Since the beaches have been closed, I‘ve been missing the ocean terribly. This book helped me feel a little more connected. It was a fun, easy popular science read. I didn‘t find it dry at all; it was a refreshing work of nonfiction to break up the run of novels I‘ve been sailing through. A few off-color jokes/remarks aside, I largely enjoyed this book.

Fascinating read! I learned so much reading this, not just about lobsters but about the lobstermen as well. This book is a bit one sided though since the focus is mostly from the side of the fishermen, but it does bring the scientist's side in on some issues. Regardless, it's a great read. It isn't written like a stuffy scientific paper, and yet it still is packed with tons of information.

This was my #DoubleSpin @TheAromaofBooks
