Survivors of the Holocaust
Survivors of the Holocaust: True Stories of Six Extraordinary Children | Kath Shackleton, Ryan Jones
7 posts | 8 read | 6 to read
Between 1933 and 1945, Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party were responsible for the persecution of millions of Jews across Europe. This extraordinary graphic novel tells the true stories of six Jewish children and young people who survived the Holocaust. From suffering the horrors of Auschwitz, to hiding from Nazi soldiers in war-torn Paris, to sheltering from the Blitz in England, each true story is a powerful testament to the survivors' courage. These remarkable testimonials serve as a reminder never to allow such a tragedy to happen again.

This graphic novel briefly tells the story of 6 children who survive the Holocaust. It manages honesty while considering its young audience. The illustrations were very well done.

Deifio This looks good. I'll keep it in mind when my children will lean about our past. I just wish that kids right now would stop comparing themselves to Anne Frank because of lockdown! That's just...argh! 😤 3y
megnews @Deifio I hadn‘t heard kids were making that comparison. That‘s awful. 3y

I am not usually a huge history person, but this was very simple and done tastefully. For those who really want to learn more there are other books to read further.

I picked this up at library today. It‘s an extremely quick read, but I wanted to share because it is a really good book for young readers to be introduced to the Holocaust. It tells 6 different stories that don‘t go into the horrible detail, but enough detail for them to understand how scary this time in history was. #neverforget

This #graphicnovel tells the story of six survivors of the Holocaust. Each had a different experience; it is powerful to read them in their own words. That being said, it‘s definitely an introduction to the Holocaust. Some young readers will be disappointed there weren't more details, but that's an opportunity to hand them other suggestions - and there are many. I received an #ARC from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. #raisingreaders

I thought this was really well done from the stories of the individuals to the back matter with the glossary and timeline of events. The art is stark and dark and reminiscent of propaganda posters. It conveys the message perfectly. I also found the stories very compelling and inclusive of multiple experiences of surviving the horror of the Holocaust.
