I have had this copy for decades after my mom read this one not long after it was published. I have finally read it! The first quarter or so is a rough go, as there‘s a lot of info dumping. After that, I become so wholly absorbed that when the final page came (815), I wanted to know what happens next! Excellent read on the events leading up to Irish independence.

BarbaraBB I remember this one. I used to love Leon Uris‘s books. 1w

Mehso-so

The bestselling novel in the U.S. in 1976 was this meandering historical chunkster, set in Ireland from the late 19th century up to WWI. It mostly follows the increasingly militant life of a farmer- turned- ironsmith- turned- rugby- player- turned- revolutionary. It's interesting and sometimes exciting and really not bad but maaaaaan is it long.

1. Trinity by Leon Uris. (It's long)

2. Physical (Not the best choice. It's pretty heavy. Because it's long.)

3. Three stars. (It's mostly okay but man is it long.)

4. Rarely.

ChaoticMissAdventures Hope it is good, because it sounds long 🙂 3y

The quintessential definition of epic. Countries inherit suffering and they fight for life and equality. Heroes are seldom seen or remembered. No one can truly appreciate their love for country. Soul- changing

Starting this #chunkster for #setinireland #booked2019. I loved exodus when I read it many moons ago but haven‘t read any Uris since. #carpoollineread

Leftcoastzen Wow Uris, he was so big back in the day!Like my parents day.😏 6y
Blaire @Leftcoastzen yes! My parents read a lot of uris, Michener, and Wouk when I was a kid - oh and also the shogun books. All chunksters. This copy is actually my mom‘s. 6y
Leftcoastzen I can picture all those authors on the shelves. 6y

1. I try to start alphabetically by author but then I have to double stack shelves so I usually locate specific books by where I last saw them on the shelf.
2. I think everyone should have a copy of their favorite book along with one to lend.
3. Sometimes
4. Yes I do!

I have read almost all these books by Leon Uris starting with Trinity in High School. I love these Historical Fictions. I really feel like I‘m learning something as well as being told a great story!

A tragic Irish epic set in late 19th/20th century. Conor Larkin is worth reading about...he's a tragic hero w/ endless amounts of integrity & strength. Detail orientated & long, it's worth it if history is your interest. Parallels with today's politics & propaganda are present. Tear inducing.

MrBook Nice review 😊👍🏻 8y
