Seemed to take forever to finish - but definitely a me not you thing.
Not my fave of the series, felt like a bit of a filler, but again that maybe me.

It‘s the new train reading! I had yet to find a mask that felt comfortable, my daughter brought me this one, it‘s aged 3!!
Had a hectic few days, no reading done at all but lots of stressful panicking and crying! Off taking daughter to uni.
Loving this one ! In the introduction Rankin says we need to know that ‘lum‘ is the Scottish word for a chimney. It will help us get one of his favorite bad puns in this series ... I just got it 🤣😂it‘s brilliant, I love bad puns & a corny sense of humour.
This is the one featuring the Heartbreak Cafe ...
Rebus ❤️
Thanks for the tag @ju.ca.no ! All but a handful of my books are in storage, but I was able to #ISpy these black covers. 🖤
@JazzFeathers @MoonWitch94 @shortsarahrose , can any of you #ISpy any books with stars on their covers? ⭐️😊
This, the 5th book in the Inspector Rebus mysteries, is the best one yet! It has everything: really scary bad guys, a seemingly unsolvable crime, bad things happening to good guys, from all sides, characters‘ flaws that are just enough to highlight their humanity, a satisfying, though not completely resolved, ending. Time to get more books in this series. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Fifth in his Edinburgh-based crime series featuring Inspector John Rebus, and Rankin really has hit his stride by now. Rebus is assigned to lead a stake-out designed to incriminate "Big Ger" Rafferty, but is soon off pursuing his own investigation into a mysterious hotel fire of five years earlier. All the strands come together most satisfactorily and it's all seasoned with a dollop of laconic humour. Highly recommended.
At one point we had three copies of The Black Book: one I ordered online, one I bought at a bookstore and gave to my mum because she didn't have it, and one in an omnibus that my mum didn't realize she'd owned until she got it back from my grandparents 😜

My least favourite Inspector Rebus so far.
It's less noir than the previous books
Rebus got too much on his plate and I think he was limited in his actions and ideas as he was preoccupied with his Brother being living with him after he was released from prison.
It's a good read not the best
