"What a compulsive read! A brilliant first novel that kept me transfixed and entertained until the very last page." -- Tess Gerritsen, "New York Times" bestselling author of "Die Again" Escape was just the beginning. Held captive for eight years, Lily has grown from a teenager to an adult in a small basement prison. Her daughter Sky has been a captive her whole life. But one day their captor leaves the deadbolt unlocked. This is what happens next... to Lily, to her twin sister, to her mother, to her daughter -- and to her captor. For fans of "Gone Girl "and "Girl on the Train," BABY DOLL is the most tense thriller you will read this year.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐My final read of 2020 and what a way to wrap up what has been a reading filled year for me. This thriller had everything I love, some likeable characters, some dark and twisted people, people with secrets and twists I didn't anticipate. It was a spellbinding read. I was hooked from the start and couldn't stop thinking about this book even when I had to put it down to do other life things like work and sleep. #hollieoverton #babydoll

Finally the storyline like i said i love true crime and stuff like that and even though this book is fictional it felt real. With Lily‘s struggles to become whole and the fact that even at the end she still isn‘t there but she‘s trying, Eve dismissing Tommy and becoming the powerful business woman. I very rarely bored reading this book i wanted more. It‘s not the happy ending you get at the end of most books it‘s real happy but not perfect.

In regards to Eve‘s character I don‘t think she needed her own chapters. She was a good character but her chapters were just boring and way too long nothing really happened in them. Now on to my favourite character Lily was amazing in the book i loved almost every chapter she was in i loved her strengths and reading about her struggles to adjust and she was just very well written overall

Its hard for me to feel bad for Abby she‘s just such a toxic character she never took responsibility for any of her actions she blamed everything on anyone else. She was toxic and cruel to Wes and her mother who just wanted to help especially Wes and then after she has her baby (david i think is his name) she suddenly loves him. She then throws everything away so that she can kill Rick. Abby was so infuriating to read.

So I‘m gonna be posting a few reviews because i have a lot of thoughts. I love the chapters in Rick‘s POV it‘s interesting to read and be in that cruel psychotic mindset. Ricks beliefs and values are disgusting and surprising to read because we don‘t think a person could think this way but they do and that realism makes his chapters so good.

I‘m a little over 100 pages left of Babydoll it‘s taking me longer than usual to read this book for multiple reasons one I‘m in school and I‘m focusing on that work and two because of the themes and content of the book its a mentally draining novel and not one that i can just binge through but i do enjoy it a lot

Im about 100 pages in and its already been an emotional roller coaster. One second I‘m cheering on Lily and Sky the next I‘m angry at Abby and Wes and then my anxiety is high. In short right now it‘s everything I want from a thriller novel.

The opening few chapters are the best in the book. There was definitely a hook, and my criticisms aside, there's some good writing in these beginning chapters.

Please stop trying to hook people by mentioning Gone Girl and Girl on the Train when marketing your book. If anything, this is closer to Room, but again, you should just not do these comparisons when a book is sub par to all of the books mentioned in this paragraph.

It's 3 stars for "Baby Doll". More of a drama than a thriller, the book has a good plot but is in need of some more pace, shocks and twists to be rated higher.

I got completed sucked in by this one. I loved the idea of book. What happens after a woman who was held captive escapes with her daughter. Couldn‘t put it down. I did feel like it started to drag a bit, but there was a twist I didn‘t see coming. Overall, I enjoyed it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book starts where thriller books usually finish off: with a girl who has been held captive for 8 years finally managing to escape. This book tells the tale of what happens next.

I enjoyed reading this book and finished it within two days, it was that gripping! Each chapter was from the perspective of a different character and it was well written. You can sort of connect and resonate with the characters in the book. Highly recommended!

SassyPants617 Just picked this up from the library. Your review made me excited to read it ☺️ 7y

1) I usually read in bed, or on the sofa.
2) Random piece of paper.
3) I prefer to stop at a new chapter, but if I suddenly need to do something straight away, I will just get to the end of the paragraph.
4) Sometimes.
5) No. I prefer silence when I read so all my concentration is on the book.
6) One book at a time.
7) Reading everywhere I can.
8) Silently.
9) Never!
10) Break the spines.
11) No, not ever.
12) I don't know many people on here.

This one gripped me right away (and I'm a sucker for a good kid napping story), but it quickly petered out. This read like a less well-written ROOM. No suspense, SO MUCH SHOWING, and a lot of unbelievability. 2/5

It's really not fair to compare this book to other authors. It completely stands on its own and deservedly so. The audio was well read with different narrators for each character's POV. A very suspenseful read about how a family copes with the return of an abducted girl.

I enjoyed the way the story was written. Each chapter was from a different characters viewpoint which was done very well. In some other books I find this can be annoying or distracting, but it flowed so well in this one. It kept my attention and the story moving very quickly, it was easy to read but very captivating...I read it on two sittings and couldn't wait to get back!

In the middle of reading this book! It's okay so far, considering I usually like a bit of romance. It's really interesting that it's wrote from different characters perspectives, especially the kidnapper himself. It's interesting to see how his mind works. I'm halfway through. What have people thought of this book if you've read it?

CouronneDhiver Welcome to Litsy! 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 I liked this book... found myself very easily picturing what I would do in her situation. I agree with you - having the captor's voice in there adds an interesting element. 8y

Original and promising concept, just very poorly executed. Unrealistic, extremely surface deep and jumping from one thing to the next didn't help. More of a love story than what it actually claimed to be. I wouldn't read any other books by the author.

This was quite a ride. It was thrilling in a very believable way. The story follows Lily and her family as they try to heal after she escapes from being abducted after several years. Hollie Overton masterfully captures the thoughts, actions and emotions that a victim and family would experience when faced with their worst nightmare. Compelling thriller.

#TBRtemptation post! Whoa! This sounds intense!! In the vein of "Gone Girl" & "Girl On The Train". Lily's been held captive for 8 long years from teenager to adult, & her daughter Sky has lived her whole life in the small basement prison. One day, their captor leaves the deadbolt unlocked. This about what comes next--for her twin sister, her mother, her daughter, and her captor. ? #blameLitsy #blameMrBook ?

By far one of the best books I've read in a long time. Twists and turns from start to finish, some predictable, some unexpected. Definitely one that makes you think about what you would do if you were in the characters shoes. Would be a fantastic movie! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book started out really strong, then it kind of flopped for me. The relationship between Lily and Abby was odd, one minute they were as close as twins could be but the next minute they were extremely jealous and bitter toward each other. The way Lily handled herself after coming home was just a little far fetched considering she'd been kept locked in a basement for eight years. There didn't seem to be a connection between her and Sky either

3.5 out of 5 stars. The publisher tried to market it as the next Gone Girl or Girl on the Train but there's no comparison. If you pick it up for that reason, you will be disappointed! No major plot twists, not a ton of action. More like suspense meets chick lit. It's a page turner with plenty of mentally ill characters so it was a decent pick for me! Lol

Strong writing, and a compelling twin sister relationship made this book for me. It's not without flaws, but given its strengths, esp the complicated nature of Libby and Abby's relationship now that Libby has returned, elevated it.
