So begins the fireworks countdown. Our neighbors are already "popping off" and Dottie is terrified of them (and thunder) so she asked to hide in my closet. I thought I'd make it a little more comfortable for her. My Boston Terriers have never reacted to them. They have slept through various tornadoes lol! Anyone else have pets that are afraid of this time of year? #petsoflitsy #dottie

Rachel.Rencher My mom's dachshund refuses to be more than an inch away from us when fireworks are going off. Some neighbors lit off firecrackers last night, and I may as well have strapped him into a baby carrier 😂 7y

Redwritinghood Oh yeah. My dog is also terrified of fireworks and thunder. Our neighbors were shooting some off the other night and my dog just huddled up to me and trembled for half an hour. Poor thing. 7y

Chelsibeau My parents have two dogs. Same litter never been apart for more than an hour. Whenever there are fireworks, one shakes uncontrollably but the other could care less. He is a 70 lb boxer and he looks so pathetic when this happens. 7y

DeeLew We had a golden retriever that was terrified of fireworks and thunder. She would hide in the back bedroom or the basement. One year we had thunderstorms all week before the 4th and an air show on the weekend. Between thunder, fireworks, and jets flying over our house in the span of 4 days, I really thought she was going to have a nervous breakdown. Poor babies. 🙁 Our current golden doesn't seem too bothered by it yet. 7y

cariashley One of my two cats freaks out completely. He slinks under the nearest piece of furniture and won't come out until it's over. Poor little guy. The other one doesn't love it but deals much better! 7y

EvieBee @Redwritinghood Oh no! How do you get through the big day usually? Dottie didn't used to be this bad. This will only be her second 4th of July but she was a wreck New Years Eve. 7y

EvieBee @Chelsibeau That is so crazy, isn't it? Seems like it isn't a learned behavior then. Aww, poor little "big" boy. I love Boxers so much! They remind me of huge Boston Terriers. (edited) 7y

Hooked_on_books Poor Dottie! Both my dogs are bothered by the noise and there is much dashing about and barking when things start, but they settle down quickly. I just have to get them outside to do their business beforehand, since once it's started they won't even consider going outside. 7y

EvieBee @Hooked_on_books Oh no! That's terrible. Poor things. She won't step out either. Good thing we only have worry about a couple times a year otherwise sheesh. They'd be on anti-anxiety meds. 7y

cathysaid The noise doesn't seem to bother my pup but I have friends who say the Thundershirt works wonders for pet anxiety. 7y

dylanisreading Yes, my Roscoe is terrified. He'll pace around panting and shaking until it's over. 7y

Melissa_J I hate loud noises like fireworks, so any holiday that involves them I always spend hiding with my dog. 7y

Purrfectpages In my neighborhood amateur fireworks seem to go off a lot. I feel so bad for my kitties. :( 7y

ReadingEnvy My boxer-shepherd thinks 1) we are being attacked and 2) barking will save us. 7y

LauraBrook Yes. My Chico hides in the hallway whenever there's a noise he doesn't recognize (like if someone parks on the street and shuts their car door), and if it gets dark during the day and/or starts raining, he slinks into the hallway. So brave. 🤦🏻‍♀️ 7y
