When two "big name fans" go head-to-head at a convention, love isn't the only thing at stake. Charming, charismatic, and effortlessly popular, Conrad Stewart seems to have it all...but in reality, he's scrambling to keep his life from tumbling out of control. Brilliant, guarded, and endlessly driven, Alden Roth may as well be the poster boy for perfection...but even he can't help but feel a little broken inside. When these mortal enemies are stuck together on a cross-country road trip to the biggest fan convention of their lives, their infamous rivalry takes a backseat as an unexpected connection is forged. Yet each has a reason why they have to win the upcoming Odyssey gaming tournament and neither is willing to let emotion get in the wayeven if it means giving up their one chance at something truly magical.

Conrad and Alden have been playing against each other for years. Now they have to road trip across the country together to the fandom‘s biggest convention where they‘ll battle it out for a spot on the pro tour and the tournament check of course. Spending time just the two of them is showing them how little they truly knew each other, & maybe them thinking the other person hates them has been a misunderstanding all along. not amazing but cute mlm

#fourfoursin22 automotive (despite the title, the majority of the book takes place on a road trip) @Lauredhel

Very much enjoyed this enemies to lovers, forced proximity romance.

So I thought this book was overall very cute. I‘m not always a fan of road trip romances, especially because the circumstances around this road trip were very flimsy and unbelievable. I did enjoy Conrad and Alden, but I never felt any animosity between them as we were intended to feel. I loved the gaming background and convention concept but felt it wasn‘t explored as well as it could have been. It was a fun, cute beach read though.

I haven't had much time for reading the last few days, as I was busy getting ready for and hosting my sister's baby shower this weekend 👶🏼💖
But I did manage to get through this cute, easy read in my downtime. It was such a nerdy, sweet story, full of all the enemies-to-lovers and roadtrip romance tropes, over the backdrop of a gaming convention.

Alt. title: How Many Tropes Can We Fit Into One Novel?
I liked the backdrop of the competition. The characters were likeable enough & easy to relate to, despite their vastly different situations and lifestyles. But the excuses for pulling the other characters out of the road trip was flimsy at best. Character development, while present, wasn't the main focus but instead took a backseat to the slow burn of their road trip together.

SHŌGUN‘s really good, but it hurts my hands so much that I need a break. Cue CONVENTIONALLY YOURS, which I‘m really enjoying so far. I‘m not AS into it now the road trip part‘s kicked in, but Albert‘s giving me enough good interactions that I‘ll deal.

(In theory, I love road trip books. In practice, they hit my brain basically the same way as [most] fantasies where the characters walk a lot.)

CindyMyLifeIsLit I don‘t know anything about this book, but Shogun is one of my favorites!! ❤️ 3y

This was a sweet M/M new adult romance taking place during a road trip to a Magic the Gathering-esque tournament and convention. It was dorky and cute, with a neurodiverse protagonist, enby bestie and lots of queer supporting characters. It was light and fun, perfect company during a terrible migraine day. Sexyfuntimes were very tame, if that‘s a concern. Overall, 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼1/2

This is a simple road trip enemies-to-lovers M/M romance. It didn‘t grab like some other such romances did, but it is sweet and quirky with a neurodiverse MC. Light read!

Cute, sweetly predictable happily ever after road trip leads to romance sort of book. Two rivals travel cross country to play some sort of card game tournament, which can have big implications for their futures. I think I enjoyed the travel aspect of it the most ( I really miss travel these days) and as a Midwesterner, I felt a lot of recognition as they traveled across Missouri. It‘s a cute, light read.

This was sweet and yeah predictable. But romance is romance. So that didn‘t bother me in the least. A whole bunch of gamer stuff, and accepting who you are, and a favourite trope of mine - enemies to lovers. Apparently there will be more. #lgbtqia #romance #newadult #roadtrip Plus my orchard‘s second flower.

CarolynM I enjoy Annabeth Albert's books. I'll look out for this one. Lovely orchid😍 4y
Missusb I am certain there is a tiny cameo from the Gaymer boys! 4y

Was trying to get a pic of my #bookhaul , but #BonBonCat had other ideas.

WanderingBookaneer @Palimpsest : He has a visit with the vet coming up. They‘ll clean that gunk up! (Bon was severely abused before he was rescued and hates being held.) 4y
WanderingBookaneer @Palimpsest : No offense taken. With #MiaCat ‘s sudden decline and rapid death in May, rest assured that all our kitties are being taken to the vet. 4y
LibrarianRyan Is it sad to say I recognize one of the books by just the little I can see behind the kitty? 4y
WanderingBookaneer It‘s brilliant, @LibrarianRyan ! Which one? 4y

I went shopping for one book and left with three. I was hoping I‘d find Not Like the Movies early and even though I have the ebook arc of Boyfriend Material I wanted the physical copy and the tagged just sounds like my kind of read.

LiteraryinLawrence They all go together so well! 4y

A cute queer rom-com. Alden and Conrad both love an elaborate card game (I got a Magic the Gathering vibe) and have their own reasons for wanting to win big at the game‘s annual Las Vegas convention. They don‘t get along until a road trip to the convention makes them realize they may have misjudged each other.

I liked this romance novel about two men, one of whom is neurodiverse. It was about loving something fandom-y and making it in the world.

This was such a fun, heartwarming book. It is well paced, engaging and impossible to put down. I loved the LGBTQAI+ and Neurodiverse representation of Albert's characters. Both were so thoughtful and so well done. Albert is attentive, caring and insightful with her characters and their story and will leave her readers full of joy after the finish the last page.

Finished this sweet, fast read earlier this week. Tore through it in two sittings. Conrad and Alden are two young men stuck in a cross country trip together to compete at a table top game convention in Las Vegas. The issue: they despise each other. Except they don't really know each other. I ADORE the enemies to lovers trope, so I enjoyed this love story, minus a few quibbles. Thanks to #sourcebookscasa for the free #arc.

Overall this was a cute new adult nerdy enemies to lovers road trip romance, but it was just okay for me. For one thing, the road trip plot meant we spent a lot of slow-moving time hanging out in Conrad's and Alden's heads and all that cycling through the same emotions and rehashing of each of their current life conflicts got pretty repetitive. But the romance itself was sweet and I enjoyed it more once we were out of the laggy middle.
