The Brilliant Life of Eudora Honeysett
The Brilliant Life of Eudora Honeysett: A Novel | Annie Lyons
Infused with the emotional power of Me Before You and the irresistible charm of Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine and Be Frank with Me, a moving and joyous novel about an elderly woman ready to embrace death and the little girl who reminds her what it means to live. Eudora Honeysett is done with this noisy, moronic worldall of it. She has witnessed the indignities and suffering of old age and has lived a full life. At eighty-five, she isnt going to leave things to chance. Her end will be on her terms. With one call to a clinic in Switzerland, a plan is set in motion. Then she meets ten-year-old Rose Trewidney, a whirling, pint-sized rainbow of color and sparkling cheer. All Eudora wants is to be left alone to set her affairs in order. Instead, she finds herself embarking on a series of adventures with the irrepressible Rose and their affable fellow neighbor, the recently widowed Stanleyafternoon tea, shopping sprees, trips to the beach, birthday celebrations, pizza parties. While the trio of unlikely BFFs grow closer and anxiously await the arrival of Roses new baby sister, Eudora is reminded of her own childhoodof losing her father during World War II and the devastating impact it had on her entire family. In reflecting on her past, Eudora realizes she must come to terms with what lies ahead. But now that her joy for life has been rekindled, how can she possibly say goodbye?

This novel is a real charmer. Eudora is 85. She has worked hard all of her life and is ready for some peace and quiet. But, what Eudora needs is Rose, the joyful, vivacious 10 year old girl that moves in next door. Rose, Eudora and neighbor, Stanley are an unlikely trio as they wring every drop of joy out of summer with their adventures. A nearly perfect (for me) read with 4++⭐️ out of 5 for this heartfelt novel.

Just finished this wonderful book. I loved the quirky band of characters, the glimpses of past memories and the present, and the growth of relationships throughout this story of a not so talked about subject—death and dying. Eudora and her “family” are now added to my long list of literary heroes. 💕

This book is absolutely charming. Eudora is a proper and kindhearted 85 yo Englishwoman who has decided to welcome death on her own terms when an absolute delight of a child moves next door to her and shakes up her life. The story is interspersed with flashbacks of Eudora‘s life, starting as a child during WWII. This is a wonderful, feel good book about friends, community and dignity in death. Loved it!

I loved this book. The relationship between Eudora, Stanley and Rose was cute and funny, and totally what I hope for in friendships, if I reach that age.

This is my book club‘s pick for July & I can see the easy comparisons to be made for A Man Called Ove! I definitely enjoyed listening to this from start to finish! Titular character Eudora, octogenarian & isolated from the world, plans to die with dignity but a precocious new neighbor soon begins drawing Eudora back into the land of friendships & connections. Warmly entertaining, I‘m curious to see what everyone else thinks! #AudioColoring

I loved this book. It deals with death compassionately. And it has lessons in it on how to live as well. I cried at the end. I knew I would, but that didn‘t stop it from happening. Five stars!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!!

MyNamesParadise I‘ve heard it being compared to Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine. In that case I‘m really excited to read it! 3y

After a recent read that featured the murders of young girls, I really needed something to reset and recharge with so I turned to one of my unread Sweet Reads box books. It did the trick - I found this to be a cross between The Elegance of the Hedgehog and Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine. It was such a lovely, poignant story with laugh-out-loud moments that put me exactly where I needed to be. Also, that shortbread was amazing.

TheBookHippie Wow this looks amazing 3y

This was so so good, I can‘t recommend it enough! It took me a few tries to get going (a busy month so far!) and I‘m so glad I didn‘t wait to try it later. I had a few hours at work to read it..and omg I cried and I hardly ever cry at books! This was such a great book on friends, life, love, perseverance, and living life no matter what it throws at you. Wonderful book 💕

I‘ve really tried to cut down on my book-buying this year. So far, I‘ve been pretty successful. But then I signed up for Sweet Reads and did some stress-buying. Oops. I think I‘ll still finish the year with fewer books than I started, though.

MsMelissa You signed up for Sweet Reads? Have you received your first box yet? I have a six month subscription at the moment, plus I ordered the Oct book lovers box and the Christmas box 😂 3y
janeycanuck @Book_Fiend_Melissa I did! My first one was October and my November box just arrived. I also got the book lover‘s box and the Christmas box AND the cook‘s box. I‘m using all my gas money that I don‘t need for gas to fund this new addiction 😝 3y
MsMelissa Awesome!! I considered the Baker‘s box for my daughter, but she said she didn‘t want it. I now realize why you bought The Forgotten Daughter! I have to pick up a copy, too, as it seems it comes before the November book. I‘m a little miffed that they went with a book that‘s a follow-up and not the first book. Oh well. 3y

Has this story been told before? Yes.
Did I fall in love with Eudora, Rose, and Stanley and cry like a baby at the end? Also yes.

The perfect story for anyone who enjoys reading about a stubborn, elderly main character who forms unlikely friendships and gains a new lease on life. The most obvious comparison is A Man Called Ove, so if you enjoyed that one, you will probably like this one as well! 4⭐

MsMelissa I just received this book in a book subscription box. I had never heard of it before, but it sounds delightful. Glad to see you enjoyed it 😊 3y
candority @Book_Fiend_Melissa It doesn't seem to be receiving much attention, but it is definitely worth the read. I hope you like it! 3y

What a lovely, lovely story! It was a delight following Eudora‘s late life, and I quite liked how you had a glimpse of what her life was and might have been had she made a different choice.
