A page turner! Nora‘s mom groomed her from birth to be a con artist mom/daughter duo. Nora escapes but finds herself in a perilous situation where she‘s forced to tap into her upbringing to survive.
3.75 ⭐️ because I wanted a deeper connection with characters. Also, it‘s sad that authors have to put safety info in the back so they don‘t get torn apart on the internet. Author used an illness and had to clarify she knew the extent of it 🙄

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join in if you want!

The cover made me pick it up, but the story kept me grasping every page for more! Nora, a certified grifter gone legit (…sort of) finds herself in a precarious position when she gets caught up in the middle of a bank heist gone bad. The pacing of information in this story is what makes it so addictive, as we learn who Nora really is.. or who she‘s been. And unfortunately for the robbers, they have no idea who they‘re messing with. 4.5/5

BooksNBowls Also, there‘s a Netflix adaption coming out soon starring Millie Bobby Brown as Nora! Brilliant! It‘s gonna be a hit for sure! 2y

I left the book that I am currently reading at home so today I read the first 5 chapters of The Girls I've Been by Tess Sharpe. The antagonists of this book are the two men who are robbing the bank. They work against the protagonist, Nora, by holding everyone in the bank captive as they try to rob it.

This YA thriller was such a great read! Thank you @LocalTXLibrarian for recommending it.

It starts with the main character caught in the middle of a bank robbery. From there we learn about her history and the events from her past that have placed her in this unpredictable situation.

I loved the back and forth in the timeline. The characters are diverse and well-developed too.

Fun, intense thriller that I highly recommend.

LocalTXLibrarian so so so glad you liked them! 2y

This YA book was not on my radar at all, but it was so good. I found it to be a page turner, and refreshingly original. Kind of a thriller for teens. Thanks @Bookishgal71 .

Once I hit about 30% I could not put this down! It‘s a fast-paced, riveting read that kept me trying (and failing) to figure out both what happened in the past, and what was happening now. I‘m so glad Netflix is picking this up because I need more of Nora in my life! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Another #reread, for both personal and professional reasons. I still love the con artist aspect of this story, as well as Wes, Nora, and Iris being the EPITOME of found family. Not for people who can't read about child abuse, tho. #yalit #yathrillers

My May pick for #12BooksOf2021 hosted by @Andrew65

This book was an awesome ride! It's impossible not to love Nora- she grew up pulling cons with her mom, her ex-boyfriend recently walked in on her kissing her new girlfriend, which only matters because she kept it a secret since they're all friends, and the bank they're all at? Getting robbed. The robbers are so not prepared for Nora though.

Andrew65 Sounds interesting. 3y

This YA thriller about a bisexual teen girl who is the daughter of a con artist was page-turning. Nora escaped her mother 5 years ago. But her past is comes back to haunt her when she, her gf, and BFF/ex are taken hostage in a bank robbery. The edge of your seat story in the bank is interspersed with Nora's years with her mom and her more recent past trying to heal from her trauma. A dark story, but ultimately hopeful. Nora is a badass survivor!

What. A. Ride. The action in this book starts from the first chapter (a bank robbery gone wrong) and doesn‘t let up for 350 pages. Switching between present and past events was a little choppy IMO but I was engrossed in both timelines; I just wish it didn‘t jump back and forth so much. Not for the faint of heart — there‘s all kinds of violence — this book reads like a feminist action movie & I‘m here for it. #ya #bookclub #teachersoflitsy

LOVE a con artist novel!! Love that Nora, Iris, and Wes all had their strengths!! Love their dynamic especially!! TW for a lot of child abuse, but this is an excellent thriller if that's your bag. #yalit

Started a bit slow and dull but quickly turned into a super fast paced page turner featuring a kick ass heroine (or 2). The characters came alive and the stakes rose higher and higher as I raced through the pages. My only complaint would be that there were certain events referenced in the book that made me wonder if there was a prequel, and that were never explained to my satisfaction. So . . . maybe a sequel?!?! Overall, engaging and enthralling!

The daughter of a con artist, her girlfriend, and her ex / best friend walk into a bank only to become hostages. The punchline? Nora's planning a reverse heist up in here. With all the skills she learned from her mother'e cons, Nora attempts to get herself & two of the most important people in her life out safe. Unfortunately doing so reveals some of her darkest secrets. Listened to this on audio and could barely hit pause.

So, so, so good. Definitely gave me "Sadie" (Courtney Summers) vibes. I was hooked instantly and wasn't planning on completing another book so fast. Domestic and/or sexual abuse is never your fault.
