House of Hollow
House of Hollow | Krystal M. Sutherland
A dark, twisty modern fairytale where three sisters discover they are not exactly all that they seem and evil things really do go bump in the night. Iris Hollow and her two older sisters are unquestionably strange. Ever since they disappeared on a suburban street in Scotland as children only to return a month a later with no memory of what happened to them, odd, eerie occurrences seem to follow in their wake. And they're changing. First, their dark hair turned white. Then, their blue eyes slowly turned black. They have insatiable appetites yet never gain weight. People find them disturbingly intoxicating, unbearably beautiful, and inexplicably dangerous. But now, ten years later, seventeen-year-old Iris Hollow is doing all she can to fit in and graduate high school on time--something her two famously glamourous globe-trotting older sisters, Grey and Vivi, never managed to do. But when Grey goes missing without a trace, leaving behind bizarre clues as to what might have happened, Iris and Vivi are left to trace her last few days. They aren't the only ones looking for her though. As they brush against the supernatural they realize that the story they've been told about their past is unraveling and the world that returned them seemingly unharmed ten years ago, might just be calling them home.

Even this some things were a bit predictable, I sincerely enjoyed this one. The characters had a lot of depth and I truly believed and felt the sisters‘ love for each other. I hope there‘s a sequel to this in the future!

I mailed this out this past Saturday @Bookish_AF along with an extra for u :)

Quick read and a pretty good one, this reminded me a lot of The Library at mount char. Weird and good and Tyler is a great character and in fact all the characters were great and had depth.

Mehso-so

I was stuck for a while if I wanted to give this a pick or a so-so. It was super eerie and creepy. I did find myself enjoying it some parts, but other parts I felt like it was bland and get to the reveal already. I love when books are descriptive but I felt maybe this one was a little too descriptive? I read about how the air smelled at least every couple pages, and sometimes it droned on forever. I just wanted more, it was just missing something.

It wouldn't be a lie if I say that I picked up this book because of its GORGEOUS cover (blood and flowers seeping out from the visage? i am sold) but I binge-read it because of its gripping story. A page-turner instead, which you cannot put down. A true masterpiece from Krystal Sutherland that I highly recommend everyone to read, if they are looking for an eerie and mysterious novel.

Sooo I‘m reading House of Hollow and it‘s got such a fun, creepy vibe to it that I‘m loving; anywhooo, the main characters are sisters named Grey, Vivi and Iris, and when I went walking in the woods the other day I found this random tree with someone‘s undying love to someone named Iris😳 Their powers have seeped out of the book✨😅 #currentread

House of Hollow by Krystal Sutherland is a creepy, gothic fairy tale set in 2021 that is like nothing else in YA fantasy. I have to admit that going into this book, I didn't exactly have high expectations. Even though this book has gotten rave reviews on Goodreads, I was somewhat skeptical. I went into this not expecting much, and I was completely blown away!

I‘m getting a late start to #Deweys24HourReadathon. Most of the time, sleep tends to win out over my intended plans. I don‘t have a definite lineup for the day. I just made a stack to pick from - mostly shorter books and manga that I‘ve bought over the last few months. I also have a couple audiobooks to listen to when I can‘t sit and read. Starting out with House of Hollow. Happy reading everyone!

I guess I must not be with the majority on this one. I was excited to read this, but it didn‘t match up with the hype. I read half and skimmed through the rest. And the cover was so pretty.

AkashaVampie I do love the cover!! 4y

Finished this one last week and it‘s still sticking with me. What a super interesting premise for a book. It was dark, strange, and eerie but in a very beautiful way. I don't think I've ever read anything even close to similar. I can't believe that story was sitting in the author's brain. What a strange place it must be in there. It will certainly take me a lot more time to reconcile my feels with this book but I really enjoyed the ride.

This was one of those books where I closed it and went “wait what.“ I still don't know if I've fully processed, and I had to talk around a lot to avoid spoilers, but I was still enthralled. And gosh knows I love a liminal space. https://youtu.be/gaEIDYGmoug

Maybe I have been reminiscing too much about the kinds of fiction that was popular when I was a teen but so far this has a modernized, interesting mashup vibe to me of both the Gossip Girl-esque It girl era with the dark urban fae feel, both popular in the mid-2000s. Combined with a dark fantasy tone that feels very now and a page count I think that will make it accessible to a wide variety of YA readers. And that cover.

Chelsea.Poole Yesss! That cover! I don‘t read YA these days but this cover and description makes me want to give it a try. 4y

There aren‘t enough words in the English language to describe how excited I am to finally have this book in my hands. I read the first 20 something pages online and was hooked!

"????, ????????? ?????? ???????? ?????? ??? ?????? ???????."⁣

One of those few books you read in a lifetime where you can't help but think "how on earth did the author come up with this idea?" It's so creepy yet so thought-provokingly brilliant. I was completely hooked on this book by the first few pages. I just had to know what happened to the Hollow sisters.

House of Hollow by Krystal Sutherland is part horror story, part modern fairy tale, part magical realism... and one hundred percent original!

The author has a wonderful way of grabbing the attention of the reader, drawing them deeper and deeper into the story and never letting go. Sutherlands words are rich, descriptive and at times I could really feel and smell the surroundings of the magical world she created.

#currentlyreading #preview #aprilrso2021 #paranormal #creepy #disappearances #sisters #atmospheric I took this school today thinking I might get a chance to read (I didn‘t), but every girl who came near my desk picked it and read the blurb. So that cover is a winner! Also our #cycad has come back to life. Look at those fronds reaching for the sky.

Littens, feast your eyes on this cover! Wow. It‘s gorgeous!

Out April 6, 2021 it‘s described as a modern fairytale about three sisters who discover they are more than they seem and that evil creatures do in fact lurk in the night.

Yes please!
