Good. Even though I am not usually a fan of short stories (as I it feels like to me that as soon as the story is getting going it ends) these stories were exciting and informative. Fiction and Non fiction is interspersed together which makes it more interesting.
Happy Mardi Gras- to celebrate I have beads, King Cake and Truman Capote, son of New Orleans! 💋💃🏻🎩👑🍰🍹🍾
“Handcarved Coffins” is a memorably vivid & creepy “nonfiction” true crime piece by Truman Capote in this collection of well-written essays and articles. Do not read this if you are afraid of snakes, or delicious hyperbole! Pictured is my copy, complete with notes deconstructing the piece by an overzealous grad student who looked like me. 😉🎃 #coffins #capote #truecrime #TeamSlaughter #ChillingPhotoChallenge @Clwojick
#AnglophileApril #CarelessWhisper You better be careful what you say to Truman , it might end up in one of his books. There is debate as to if the non - fiction in this book is really fiction or embellished gossip.I love his writing but his love of the party scene and his various addictions probably kept him from writing more, would there have been another great novel?I wonder....
Loves this book so much! Perfect read before a NOLA visit.
“Some cities, like wrapped boxes under Christmas trees, conceal unexpected gifts, secret delights. Some cities will always remain wrapped boxes, containers of riddles never to be solved nor even to be seen by vacationing visitors, or, for that matter, the most inquisitive, persistent travelers. To know such cities, to unwrap them, as it were, one has to have been born there.”
Reading short stories while waiting for the outdoor summer movie to start at my local art museum. Tonight is Creature from the Black Lagoon. I‘m loving this collection from Capote. He paints such incredible pictures with his descriptions and these are all true stories. The one about Marilyn Monroe was particularly heartbreaking. I also loved the title story.
Fireworks, fitting read today.
“She was a woman w/ a good & varied mind; intelligence illuminated her hazel eyes like the small lamp shining on the table beside her.”
“Our real fears are the sound of footsteps walking in the corridors of our minds, & the anxieties, the phantom floatings, they create.”
“A conversation is a dialogue, not a monologue. That‘s why there are so few good conversations: due to scarcity, 2 intelligent talkers seldom meet.”
little book, big legacy🙌📚
Music For Chameleons by Truman Capote. This copy is getting too delicate for all its use: time to get another copy😬

Norcturnal Turnings is my favorite short story from Capote. I read this when I was around 15 and it shocked me because of how much I related to the concept of going through the motions in your mind.

Day 6 #riotgrams - Music For Chameleons by #TrumanCapote is my choice for #shortstories - this little #book is always by my bed. My favorite story is the last one, Nocturnal Turnings. It‘s out of body, very weird. One of my favorite authors. ❤️📚 #fiction #nonfiction #stories #oldbook #reading
