This was absolutely brilliant story: I really liked Casey and hoped she's going to survive. I loved how characters were fleshed out and how easy it was to relate to them.

Atmosphere was amazing! It was creepy and I absolutely loved it. I still would have loved to be a bit more afraid.

This had some twists that I didn't see coming but the major one was quite easy to guess beforehand. That was a tiny disappointment.

I was torn between a so-so and a pick, but you know what? That cover promises bug murder and it delivers. (It also, surprisingly, delivers complicated feels about bad dudes - unexpected! Maybe ultimately misplaced in a bug murder book! Choices!)

I'm sure this scientist is going to be a good guy, but his vibes are off. Has the need for grants ruined both your curiosity and your capacity for observation?!
Signed,
A real life scientist (who was never good at getting grant funding) (and who works as a biologist for the state this book almost certainly takes place in)

Carol Gore definitely lives up to her namesake in vol. 2 of Rewind or Die. Casey Lovitt is trying to protect tourists from the outsized increasingly aggressive insects that are popping up randomly in her beloved wetlands. Her obnoxious sheriff brother, dependent mother & a scientist that she has developed a thing for keeps her busy when she's not dodging freakishly large insects. Another campy fun read from Rewind or Die!

Addison_Reads Just seeing this review made me think bugs were crawling on me again. It was such a fun read. 2y
vivastory @Addison_Reads I definitely scratched my neck a few times. Another good creepy creature read is Winters 2y
Megabooks Did you ever watch Monsters Inside Me on (I think) Animal Planet? Its old but in reruns/on streaming. It‘s about parasites (mainly) that cause mystery illnesses. I loved it to bring up the weird stuff I was learning in vet school. So fun. So gross. (edited) 2y

Bookzombie This was a lot of fun! 2y
vivastory @Megabooks OMG yes 😬😂 I remember one episode where a kid was stricken by a mysterious illness for months & hospitalized. He almost died & if I remember correctly it was because he had touched an armadillo. 2y
vivastory @Bookzombie I know you have read a few of the Rewind or Die books, have a favorite? 2y
Bookzombie @vivastory This is the only one I have read so far, although most of them are on my TBR. I think @Reggie might have read them all. 2y
vivastory @Bookzombie I'm really looking forward to the next one as I have heard it's one of the best & I have heard great things about Hailey Piper in general. (I read a short story by Piper in an anthology that I enjoyed, but have yet to read a longer piece) (edited) 2y
Bookzombie @vivastory I have heard great things about Piper too and that‘s the one I will pick up when I start another. She was on my #bookspin lists toward the end of last year and I just never got to it. 2y
Reggie When the girl gets stuck on the zipline 🙈 And I felt so bad for Casey. Rough work life, rough home life and this has one of my favorite things. The mistreated children who grows up to and tries to save their family to prove they are worthy of love, too. All this set against a backdrop of superbugs. Gotta love it!!!!! Glad you did, too, Scott. 2y

This is a book I read after listening to episode 231 of the Reading Envy podcast, which featured Reggie talking about horror fiction. It‘s a fun old-fashioned creature feature about big bugs that want to eat you. This book is from the Rewind or Die series. I believe each book in the series is a stand-alone, but they are connected by keeping a video-cassette-tape-of-a-70s-80s- horror-movie vibe. This was a nostalgic romp through the horror genre.

Reggie @Suet624 ❤️ I honestly thought people were going to hear horror themed, skip it, and wait until the next episode. Turns out. Not the case. Yay! Glad you liked it @Bookboss 2y

Honestly, I still have the creepy-crawly feeling after reading this one, but it was so much fun. This is a short read full of terrifying bugs and gore. I even looked up some of the bugs to find out if they were real. (shudders) #Screamathon

This is another pick from a @Reggie review. I bumped it up after he discussed it with @ReadingEnvy on her latest podcast episode.

Reggie Lololol love the can of spray in the pic. So glad you also liked the book! Every little house tic tonight will have you looking. 2y
ReadingEnvy The props are hilarious. I will NOT be reading this one, shudder. 2y
Bookzombie @Reggie Every time I feel something crawl, I‘m worried about bugs. I was thinking about the horse fly again tonight. 🪰 2y
Bookzombie @ReadingEnvy Thanks! I can hardly go out in the evenings without wearing one of those bands. 2y

#BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks #SeriesRead2021 @TheSpineView

If you plan on reading this I suggest not doing it during peak insect season. 😱

I still feel things crawling on me, but I couldn't stop reading this one. Great novella with some gross out moments that painted very vivid images.

#RewindorDie Book 2

TheSpineView Great job! 3y
TheAromaofBooks Oh no, I don't think I could deal with the creepy crawlies!!! 3y
Reggie Lololol I love that she stuck an entomologist in here to be the google page you needed when any insect attacked. ‘Oh yeah, those inject a toxin into its victim‘s body to liquefy the insides so it‘s easier to suck everything out.‘ This was so good! Glad you liked this one, too. 3y

@Billypar remember when you commented about this a while back. Mosquitos are growing resistant to insecticides so now science is gonna go release genetically modified mosquitos to combat dengue fever and Zika virus. In the book on the right the entomologist we meet was releasing sterilized mosquitos into a swamp to curb the mosquito population. The one in the book smacked of that Jurassic Park hubris and ended up with football sized horse 👇🏼

Reggie flies and roaches and mosquitos. Lolol let‘s see how this turns out. Lol (and no I don‘t think we‘ll end up with football sized insects..... 🤞🏼 ) (edited) 3y
Billypar Yikes ? I'm afraid the next headline will read: "Florida government seeks elite team of entymologists and one wise-cracking mathematician for top-secret assignment." 3y

I loved the author‘s last name! So fitting. She packed so much ridiculously good stuff into an 93 page novella I‘m in awe! We meet Casey who works for Green Swamp Zipline Adventure and Campground. She starts to notice that the insects from her swamp keep getting larger and more aggressive and it‘s up to her to find out why. Ya‘ll, there‘s a part in here where an alligator is wriggling around in pain and it‘s because a swarm of horseflies 👇🏼

Reggie entered through it‘s belly and was eating it from the inside out. Gore pairs Casey with an entomologist character who supplies you with all the horrifying and savage insect facts. This was really smart. Pick!!!!! (edited) 3y
Twainy I KNOW! That name!! 🖤 It‘s the first thing I thought!! Now I need to know if the bugs lose and how! If an alligator can‘t win ... 😳 3y
Reggie @Twainy You would totally love this! 3y

TrishB You‘re on a roll with these Reggie! 3y
Cathythoughts Carol GORE ! Really 😂 3y
Billypar What a timely read - I heard a news story the other day about new concerning mosquito strains found in Florida. Not killer ones though...at least not yet! 3y
erzascarletbookgasm You‘re having so much fun with all the weird and gory stuff 😄 3y
Reggie @Cathyyhoughts there was a lot of bugsplat and blood being sloshed around in here, it‘s a deserved pen name if it isn‘t her real name. 🐜 3y
Reggie @Billypar with the warming of the climate who knows where their destiny lies. Hopefully not this book. There‘s a part where Casey is driving down a trail road and thinks someone that is in a black leotard has fallen into the road but when she pulls closer she realizes it‘s a person blanketed by a swarm of mosquitos. 🦟🦟🦟 3y
Reggie @TrishB @erzascarletbookgasm I am having some much needed fun with these books because the hellscape that is work right now does not allow me to pick up anything heavier than mutated killer insects. Out of 7 casinos we‘re one of 3 open so we‘ve soaked up a lot business but we only brought back some staff not all. So it‘s double the business with half the staff. Not fun. But I‘m grateful for the job. 3y
vivastory I definitely need to check this series out 3y
Reggie @vivastory so far, 2,4, and 5 are definitely winners! 3y
Bookzombie @Reggie I would be the person swarmed by mosquitoes. 🦟 They already think I make a nice meal. 3y
Reggie @Bookzombie I don‘t know if you were in Texas around 2006. I lived very close to El Paso at the time and we got this crazy Monsoon season where it never stopped raining which meant more standing water for mosquito larvae. I used to cruise around this lake and that summer if you rolled down the window the mosquitos got you. One time I counted 18 mosquito bites on one arm in the matter of 1 minute. It was crazy. 3y
Bookzombie @Reggie That sounds awful. So far I have always lived in Texas, but in or not far from San Antonio. We sit outside on Friday evenings when it‘s nice and not cold. Occasionally I will get bit enough to take a Benadryl because I itch so much. They hardly bother my husband at all. 🙄 3y

Jovy I can‘t unsee this in my head 😂 Stacked! 3y
Reggie @Jovy there are other insects in here where an entomologist says that “the venom they inject into their prey liquifies their insides so it is easier to slurp out.” Lol This book rocks in a lot of ways. 3y
Chrissyreadit I may never go outside unless slathered in bug spray again. I don‘t care if it‘s 10 degrees out. Not worth the risk. 3y
Reggie @Chrissyreadit Lololol let me tell you last night when I went to bed any little sound made me think there was something in my room with me. Lol 3y

This was a super fun short read. And the first rewind or die novella that I‘ve read but based on this book I‘m definitely going to read more.

In it the insects in a local swamp start getting bigger and craving human flesh and it‘s up to the park ranger to figure out why.
