4-4-22: My 31st finished book of 2022! Ward, our narrator, is being interviewed in 1988 about his time at a ranch in Reno, Nevada, called The Flying Leap in 1938. He was a ranch hand at this establishment that catered to women going through divorces. They had to reside in Reno for 6 weeks before they were allowed to divorce and Ward was there to assist. Ward tells of his time with Emily and Nina, two divorcees he became close with.

DNFing at 42%. A disappointing slog. I loved Johnson's first novel so much, I had high hopes for this one. The setting--a 1930s Reno divorce ranch--is great. But why--WHY--did Johnson choose to tell the story of two women divorcees through the first-person viewpoint of a man who works at the ranch? It does not work.

A fun setting, but the execution was a little slow. Read for #bookclub

A delightful & humorous book about a divorce ranch located in Reno in the late 1930's. Women flocked to the Ranch to wait the 6 weeks required to establish residency & file for divorce.
Bold Nina, shy Emily, endearing Sam & naive Ward share 6 weeks that will prove to be a turning point for all.
Although I would have preferred a female narrator & a less happy ending, I thought this book charming & found myself grinning like a fool frequently.⭐⭐⭐⭐

"The gun is just for show. To scare off wolves."
"How do you scare wolves if the gun isn't loaded?" I asked.
"Two-legged wolves are pretty easy to scare."

Kindle started a reading challenge in January. I earned most of the badges. I didn‘t earn register Kindle device as it has been registered and the 30 day reading badge. Overall, I am pleased. I hope that they do a February #kindlechallenge .

The last of my January book club books to read. #bnbookclub

This book has so much potential, but it sucks. We‘re talking about women who stay on a ranch in order to be able to divorce their husbands. There‘s so much possibility with that premise, but instead of learning their backstories and seeing them forge meaningful friendships with each other, we learn the story of the freakin‘ boring MALE ranch-hand. The chapters SHOULD alternate the different women‘s points of view, but no. Just the guy. 👎👎 #boooo

This was okay. A bit of a so-so to be honest....I agree with what others have said about the flat characters and the lost potential with the direction some of the relationships could have gone in. Not as endearing as Be Frank With Me.

#DAILYCHECKIN Today has some chores and desking, if I want to enjoy the Monday holiday here in the States. I have one main project set aside for tomorrow, and lots of reading for the breaks!

What a great read for Barnes & Nobles January 2021 Bookclub pick! Didn‘t know they had divorce ranch in Nevada.🤷🏽‍♀️ Who knew!

We'll be going into Stay Home orders tonight so I ran over to the library to pick up another book ready for me, just in case they close the libraries (which I'm sure they'll do)

So while the country was falling apart this afternoon I was blissfully unaware spending my gift card at Barnes and Noble, then I got home

I know this was a very anticipated book for a lot of readers. While I stuck with it this was just not my wheelhouse. I love literary fiction, but the time and sense of place did not work for me. This might have better served to read this and not do this on Audiobook.

Here‘s my review for another book I just finished reading. I liked the narrator in this audiobook. I won a physical ARC of this book from Goodreads but I listened to an audio ARC of this book from Netgalley. I requested an audio ARC of this book and I didn‘t think I was going to get approved for it because I‘ve requested books and I‘ve been rejected before so I‘m surprised that I was approved.
