Format was interesting but it jumps around through several timelines so it was confusing. Also, loose ends and thinly developed characters /motives detracted. But définitely has a mystique about it…Soft pick for me

This was a touching book. At times it was hard to follow jumping around among timelines, but overall I liked it.
This one was disappointing. It was hard to follow the plot as it slipped around quite a bit and some of the quotes between chapters left me confused ⭐️ However, finishing it up from the hammock (as little man naps!) on Day 1 of our 10 day cabin trip made the ending a little sweeter! 🌲
This book deserves more hype. I see why Jenna picked it. The structure of the novel is brilliant and the short chapters made it a quick read. It is a testament to a mother‘s love and a perfect read for Mother‘s Day. Best book I read all year.
The reviews on this book were so mixed-I wasn't sure what to expect. I didn't have high hopes. Maybe it's because it's Mother's Day... but I really enjoyed this one. Although there is limited character development, it doesn't hurt the story. This isn't a book about specific characters, it's about intergenerational trauma & complicated, challenging relationships between mothers & daughters. The author's note left me tearful. Gave me all the feels.
This was a beautiful and heartbreaking story about the bond between a mother and daughter set in WWII Germany as well as in the United States.
🎧 #BOTM that I didn‘t pick. 10 pages in, another WWII/Nazi book? 😫
Wrong oh cynical one.
Well to be fair I did just finish MITHC & having that fresh in my mind ... yeah, cynical.
OK I didn‘t feel I got to know the characters ... Klara, Annelise, Ruth, Claire ... but it‘s not really about them. It‘s about mother/daughter relationships, perseverance, social injustice, love & loss.
A solid ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻
I cannot imagine what it must have been like for someone to attain a visa to America, escape Nazi Germany, freely walk down streets and into shops, make friends, raise children - while surviving family members remained desperate to escape the hateful hands of Nazi‘s. How did they pry themselves life from that history.
Thank you @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks for the positive quote yesterday. I definitely needed it. I had to rush to my hometown because my mother had a stroke that has left her uncommunicative. Which is frustrating and saddening for us both. They are continuing to run tests today to find out why she is having back to back strokes. I packed a new book and an old favorite.
The writing style of this book is very different to what I‘m used to in WWII historical fiction, but I found it refreshing. It‘s a fast read and allows you to look at the atrocities of war from a different perspective. The character development is not at 100% but I found so much of this relatable and highlighted a lot of things. Would definitely read more from this author. 4⭐️

This one was a tough choice between “Pick” and “So-so” 🤔 The writing felt rushed or slightly disjointed, the idea is great and I liked the multiple narrators, but.... I don‘t know something just didn‘t click for me. A solid 3 stars.
Had such a great time at tonight‘s Literature Lovers‘ Night Out event talking with fellow historical fiction authors Lauren Fox (Send For Me), Judithe Little (The Chanel Sisters) and Sarah Penner (The Lost Apothecary)! Readers attended from near the sponsoring bookstores in Minnesota but also across the country and as far away as Australia! Virtual events are truly the silver lining of not getting to do a traditional book tour these days.
