Hello July 😳
Been reading this for a bit and some parts are great and others I just want to put it down.
This is technically the first book in a new series, but we still got a couple cameos from the stars of “My Lady Jane” and I could not have had more fun listening to this audiobook while getting work done around the house.
Set in the same fantasy version of our world as My Lady Jane, Mary Queen of Scots has the secret ability to change into a mouse. This leads to an incredibly entertaining alternate history #YA take on a real period of history. It made me want to learn more about the real Mary Queen of Scots while also laughing at random Titanic and Princess Bride movie references. Additionally, the authors give Mary a happier ending than the true story.

This would have been a pick except my library loan came due and I had to wait months to get the book back, so I lost my groove, and I found Mary to be pretty eye-rolling. Yes, she's contrary, but that apparently also means she didn't use common sense or listen to advice or use her brain when someone tells her she couldn't do something. Francis was awesome though. And it was nice to see the characters from My Lady Jane again, even as a short cameo.
The writing team that reimagined 3 famous historical Janes now turns to the Marys, starting with Mary Queen of Scots. Turns out she can become a mouse, but keeps this quiet in the palace in France where she lives beside her betrothed. I just love how these books marry (heh-heh) historical figures with a fantastical twist and elevate these women in the best way. This one is a lot of fun!
Hilariously written fantasy mixed with historical fact. A fast-moving narrative that makes the big book breeze by. Incredibly intriguing & entertaining in a way that literally had me laughing out loud. The writing is seamless & has a cohesive voice despite there being 3 authors. I appreciate the flippancy & nods to modern culture. It's like having an Easter egg hunt in your novel. These quirky novels are right up my alley & I loved this read.
Ari's visions have got to be one of ly favorite parts about this book. So many movie references 😍🤩🤓
This was the funniest one since My Lady Jane. I loved every moment of it. A great start to the trilogy of Marys.
Historically, women in power don‘t get treated very well. This trio of authors tries to fix that with this fantasy series, focusing on Mary, Queen of Scots.
This is another fun installment in a fantasy series with shapeshifters. This story has a little bit of everything. Humor, fantasy, messing with history, romance.
It‘s a fun read, but I got a little tired of the pop culture references, and the ending was a little abrupt for me. 🌕🌕🌕🌑🌑
After the doctor‘s, I had to go grocery shopping because I had no chocolate. But it‘s still raining and now I have giant, gooey cookies. #AudioBaking
It‘s been about 2 weeks since I have picked up a book thanks to grad work😭 I survived my two major projects - got a 93 on my Public Library 26 page paper on the need for more diversity in YA literature, and a 💯 on my informational database paper on a teen public library app for YA to find diverse books 🎉🎉 Now a 2 week break from grad work until my fall class , YOUTH PROGRAMMING starts, and I am going to READ and sleep 🙏🏻📚😍
(illus. Yaoyao Ma Van As via Pinterest) Hello all! I have been MIA for the past couple of weeks due to my 2 MLS summers courses (about 15+hours each per week). This illustration is how I feel currently about my Public Library project- Grant Proposal, that is due tonight, and my other database project due Thursday 🥲I am optimistic and trust the process- learning over perfection, but GUYS, grant writing makes me feel like I‘m growing gray hairs!
Library haul! I brought about 40 ish books from the HS library when I left for summer. I finished over half but I realized the ones I have left are mostly of the Realistic Genre they deal with hard subjects💔That being said, I had to grab a few YA books that might be a little lighter, as well as some adult fiction that I have been wanting to read ( not under the “light” topics). 📚I (& other librarians of the district) go back on Thursday!🥲⬇️
Finished My Calamity Jane (3⭐, not bad but definitely my least favorite of the series). Now I'm moving on to this one!
If you like history, fantasy, romance, comedy, The Princess Bride, and/or the under-appreciated tv show Reign, YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK (but probably read My Lady Jane first). I love this world of revised history where queens are friends & don‘t die tragically 💚

5/5 for this one! Can I say how much I love Mary??!! This was such an awesome historical fantasy. I loved seeing characters from the other series. The story was so fun and hilarious. Francis grew so much in this book. They both did really. I highly recommend this one. Thank you to Netgalley and Harper Teen for this ARC audio in exchange for an honest review.
After loving My Lady Jane, I was so excited to dive into this one- after all, Mary had a cameo in that one, so I was excited to see if it would be reciprocated (minor spoiler - it is!). As Mary‘s nuptials approach, the political environment in France has everyone grabbing at power-& to keep a secret like Mary‘s, is getting much harder! Hilarious & exciting, I really enjoyed this one! Can‘t wait to see who the next Mary is! #AudioColoring
