The first in a delicious new culinary cozy series featuring a grilled cheese eatery owner who must solve murders in her small town before she is put under lock and brie Back in Balsam Dell to heal after the death of her husband, Carly Hale is finally pursuing her lifelong dreamopening Carly's Grilled Cheese Eatery. After only five months, business is booming as Vermont vacationers and townspeople alike flock to lunch on her Party Havartis and other grilled cheese concoctions. All but Lyle Bagley, Carly's one-time high school boyfriend and now town bully who just bought the building that houses her eatery and wants Carly out. After a muenster of a fight, Carly's forced to put her nose to the rind and find a solution to keep her business afloat. That is...until Lyle is discovered dead behind the dumpster of Carly's shop, and one of her employees becomes the prime suspect. In order to save her eatery and prove her friend's innocence, Carly must sleuth out the killer before she's the one who gets grilled. With a delightful cast of characters, an inventive amateur sleuth, and a whole host of cheesy hijinks, Up to No Gouda is the perfect cozy murder mystery to melt into.

Just finished this #cbbc cozy and it is a total pick for me!!! While definitely not vegan the cafe sounded like fun and i‘m thinking of all the vegan possibilities- the town was charming, I love the main character AND side characters and i liked the mystery- a murder with a lot of suspects. I love when i read a book that never would have been on my radar and it‘s a total win!

Susanita Except that @julesG informed me it‘s pronounced gow (rhymes with how) da. 🤣 1y
julesG @Susanita Yepp. Sorry Not Sorry. That's how you pronounce the city in the Netherlands. 1y

August review
This book was part of #CBBC @mommamanzi
I enjoyed this one. Carly went back to her hometown and rented and inaugurated a place where she establishes her restaurant. The specialty are different types of grilled cheese sandwiches 🥪 😋recipes at the end of the book👌But with only few months operating she was informed that the building new owner wants to renovate the place and she has only few months to evacuate the place⬇️

Gissy (Cont.) She met the new owner the day she was informed about the building. He is someone she knows from her past (no spoiler) One person threatened this building owner. Then, a murder is committed, someone is accused and Carly will help to resolve the mystery as expected in cozy mysteries. It was okay but entertained. I was imagining these sandwiches 🥪 in my head all the time😳😂3⭐️

It‘s been awhile since I read a cozy that was GOOD GOOD and made me want more asap. This was that cozy. The setting, characters, the homeyness of grilled cheese, I loved every minute.

Chrissyreadit is this CBBC or should I stack it? 1y
BethM @Chrissyreadit it‘s CBBC! I just don‘t tag them in case people like to be surprised. (edited) 1y

Such a great pick @Kshakal 🥰 I had no idea of the “who done it”, which is always fun. Also love how sensible the main character is. Now for eating tons of grilled cheese!!! #CBBC

Got this in @MommyofTwo. Thank you for the added goodies! Started on chapter one yesterday... Man, I love grilled cheese! I am a bit far from this place, but... it might be a good “in the future“ stop in.

MommyOfTwo Yea that book made me hungry and I forgot to take a picture of the recipe I wanted to make. 2y
ElizaMarie @MommyOfTwo which one? I can take a pic and email it to you 2y
MommyOfTwo I know it was a grilled cheese but can‘t remember what it was called 2y

This was such a good cozy!!! I loved that it was set in a grilled cheese shop (and yes it did make me want a grilled cheese the whole time!)… I loved getting to know the characters and I loved the mystery… I had so many suspects until the actual killer revealed themselves! I will for sure be reading more of this series!!

I think I‘ve become more paranoid and suspicious in my old age…. I had every character, including the main character, as suspects until the actual murderer showed themselves. One dude was sus because he smiled too much. No one smiles that much. Much sus. 😒

All told: a solid, cozy ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read.

Did I borrow this book solely because the title made me giggle? Yes. Did I then read the description and see the words ‘Grilled Cheese Eatery‘ and giggle some more? Yes I did. Do I now want a grilled cheese sandwich? Yes I do. Do I have the ingredients for said grilled cheese…? NO I DO NOT!!!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭

This was a cute start to a new cozy mystery series. I felt the author was trying to introduce the characters more than concentrate on the story. I still liked it enough to continue reading them. This was my #DoubleSpin book for #BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks

What a great start to a new series! The characters are well done, the mystery was very entertaining, and the included recipes all seem mouth-wateringly delicious. I really like that they‘re not rushing our heroine into anything and she‘s cautious enough to not take unnecessary risks.
