At B&N today I was told that my teacher card was now defunct - instead I can use their new discount card for free one year. ( usually 40$; Did not pay anything for teacher membership). Apparently it‘s 10% off everything & a free tote. So I treated myself to a few books.📚📚👜

ravenlee I got an email from them a couple months ago explaining the demise of the educator program. My favorite part was when they tried to explain that (after the year freebie) paying $40/year to save 10% on everything is better than paying $0/year to save 20% on what you actually use for teaching is better. So spending more to save less > spending nothing to save more. Makes perfect sense. 2y
ravenlee I say all this as a homeschool mom, longtime BN membership subscriber, and former BN employee, by the way. 😆 2y
Gissy Lovely tote at least🤷🏽‍♀️Spending more, save less😳 (edited) 2y
kspenmoll Yes, it‘s not a win! An indie bookstore just opened 30 min or so from me so I plan to go there. What‘s 10%? Sales tax? @ravenlee @Gissy (edited) 2y

I was really surprised by how much I liked this novel. The writing is beautiful & very well-done. I actually couldn't believe this was a debut. I found Willa to be sympathetic & relatable. Her struggles with identity, self-image, relationships, & confidence felt realistic. I really liked this one! ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Megabooks I enjoyed this too! 3y

A coming-of-age story about a young biracial Chinese girl in NYC working as a nanny, reflecting on her past, and figuring herself out. A light read, well written. Really enjoyed it.

Anyone else try to wake up early and enjoy the quiet of the morning? One of my favorite parts of the holiday season is just sitting by the tree before everyone else wakes up. 🎄

Also, just started the tagged book and really enjoying it so far. I love the writing style. I've had a hard time getting sucked into my last few reads so I'm hoping this will be the cure.

Moonprismpower Yes! I wake up before sunrise and turn on the tree lights and it is lovely with a cup of hot coffee. 3y
guinsgirlreads Yes! My favorite time of the day. 3y
RaeLovesToRead Love your tree! I wish I was a morning person, haha 😄 3y
DimeryRene Yes! I read in my living room in the peaceful morning light before my husband gets up. It‘s the best. 3y

I LOVED this #botm add on!

24-year-old Willa takes a job as a nanny to 9-year-old Bijou in Tribeca. Once she moves in, her life becomes more enmeshed with theirs, and she reflects on her own splintered childhood, coveting the stability her half-siblings had.

I had a transitional year as a nanny at 24. It was a reflective time for me too: I decided to become a vet and not to become a mother. It gave me space and support to make my own way. ⬇️

Megabooks ⬆️ Aside: the kids were wonderful, and they are amazing young adults now, but I realized that day-to-day parenting was not for me. No reflection on their behavior or their mother, whom I still admire and am friends with. (edited) 3y
Cinfhen Another gorgeous cover 😍I‘m gonna look for this on audio 3y
Megabooks @Cinfhen it would probably be great on audio! 3y
Reviewsbylola I was a nanny at 24 too! It didn‘t really affect my desires to become a mother though, which have always been strong. 3y
Reviewsbylola This cover is so pretty, so you‘re really tempting me with your review! 3y
