Book #56
4/5
This is a pretty good rom-com, with a bit of extra depth - it had me questioning the complex nature of relationships, and just how much an individual's past experiences in relationships affects the outcome of new ones.

This was a well-written women‘s fiction and romance with a slight speculative fiction twist. Would you pay $50k ($45k as a woman to account for the wage gap), to be guaranteed to find your perfect soulmate that will lead to a forever love? Ursula and Rafael are matched by The Arc after paying this fee and everything is perfect…until it‘s not. The plot drives forward while offering plenty of character development for Ursula (less for Rafael). 4 ⭐️

Alfoster Yes! I was pleasantly surprised with this one. Such an interesting premise! 2y
Kaylamburson It really was! I‘m always interested in how technology can better (or worsen) our lives! @Alfoster 2y

This wasn‘t what I was expecting at all, but ended up liking it anyway! For some reason, the blurb made me think it was going to be much more sinister and possibly a lot more speculative. What I got was a well-written modern romance, that happily lampoons dating in today‘s world, fourth-wave feminism and start-up and branding culture. But it still thoughtfully examined what happily ever after really looks like. Plus a fun little twist at the end.

squirrelbrain I nearly picked this up in the library the other day…. Maybe next time! 3y
RaeLovesToRead It shows I've been on book social media for too long that I read this as the A.R.C (as in advanced review copy) 😄 3y

The premise of this book sounded so interesting, when I read the description, however it was a lackluster story that I got bored as I continued to read The Arc.

This was almost a so-so, mostly because it was so hard to classify! I loved the heroine‘s weirdness. The friend relationships were also great, and I loved the cat. Good audio narrator, if you go that route.
Someone else chime in if you‘ve read this one: did it seem like it was a completely different genre for the first 1/3?

Ursula Byrne and Rafael Banks have a unique start to their relationship, for nearly 100,000 between them they are matched ONLY one chance, one date or match with a dating service called "The Arc."
They meet, they get on great and fall head over heels in love as per description of the dating agency guidelines, one perfect match with every nuance calculated, balanced and perfectly calibrated.
BUT their relationship hits a glitch that causes chaos.

I could not put this book down and stayed up way past my bedtime to see how the story ended. This is a book that stays with you, turning the ideas over in your mind long after the last page is turned. #ARC #NetGalley
