Homicide detective Eve Dallas must untangle a twisted family history while a hostages life hangs in the balancein Abandoned in Death by New York Times bestselling author J. D. Robb. The womans body was found in the early morning, on a bench in a New York City playground. She was clean, her hair neatly arranged, her makeup carefully applied. But other things were very wronglike the tattoo and piercings, clearly new. The clothes, decades out of date. The fatal wound hidden beneath a ribbon around her neck. And the note: Bad Mommy, written in crayon as if by a child. Eve Dallas turns to the departments top profiler, who confirms what seems obvious to Eve: Theyre dealing with a killer whose childhood involved some sort of traumaa situation Eve is all too familiar with herself. Yet the clues suggest a perpetrator whod be roughly sixty years old, and there are no records of old crimes with a similar MO. What was the trigger that apparently reopened such an old wound and sent someone over the edge? When Eve discovers that other young womenwho physically resemble the first victimhave vanished, the clock starts ticking louder. But to solve this case she will need to find her way into a hidden place of dim light and concrete, into the distant past, and into the cold depths of a shattered mind.

#54 in the 'In Death' Series! Still love reading this series. It's like visiting old friends to see what's been happening in their lives🙂

These may be formulaic, but they‘re still fun reads. Another solid Eve Dallas mystery. This is #54 and #55 will be released this fall. Nora Roberts is a writing machine!

LiseWorks Love Eve Dallas, these are so fun to read. 2y
Liatrek I‘m so excited I‘m starting this one today. I never thought I‘d catch up with the series🙂 I love these characters so much. 2y

1. Where do I start as I love rereads! I‘ve read/listened to (because I have both the books & the audiobooks) The Belgariad series + the sequel series at least 30 (possibly more) times. Also the Mercy Thompson & Alpha and Omega series, Douglas Adams‘s books, A Midsummer‘s Night Dream, and so many more.

2. Kidnapping + murder in future NYC

Thanks for the tag Lisa!

Who hasn‘t played? Consider yourself tagged! 😀

TheSpineView You're welcome! Wow, 30 reread! Thanks for playing 2y
wanderinglynn @TheSpineView I first read it when I was 11 or 12, so I‘ve loved this series for a long time. 2y

#SundayFunday

1. It‘s hard to choose – Sherlock, Poirot, Eve Dallas, Veronica Mars, Nick Charles

2. I like to try to figure it out but often I get caught up in the story and so I‘m surprised.

3. The most recent In Death (won‘t be release in paperback until summer)

PageShifter I agree that it's usually more about trying to figure out than actually figuring out 🤣 3y
BookmarkTavern I hope the next In Death book surpasses your expectations! Thank you for sharing! 3y

Another entertaining book (#54!) in the In Death series. These last few have been great mysteries and easier to pick up even if you haven‘t read any of the series. Eve & Roarke and the whole gang are there. A little slower start, but a satisfying twist. 4⭐️

LiseWorks I love this series, I wish they would make a TV series, I would love to see who would play Eve and Roarke 3y
Nessavamusic @LiseWorks Yes! Apparently it‘s been optioned several times, but never actually happened. 3y

This is #54 in the series and I still really enjoy the books. It also is fascinating to see some of the things that seemed so futuristic when I read the first books, (video phone calls for example) now common place. If you love mysteries with a touch of romance you are in for a treat with this large series. Start with “Naked in Death“ which is the first one. I gave it 4.5/5 stars and bow to the genius of Nora Roberts for keeping me entertained.
