From the New York Times bestselling author of The Love Hypothesis comes a new steamy, STEMinist novella Nothing like a little rivalry between scientists to take love to the next level. Mara, Sadie, and Hannah are friends first, scientists always. Though their fields of study might take them to different corners of the world, they can all agree on this universal truth: when it comes to love and science, opposites attract and rivals make you burn Logically, Sadie knows that civil engineers are supposed to build bridges. However, as a woman of STEM she also understands that variables can change, and when you are stuck for hours in a tiny New York elevator with the man who broke your heart, you earn the right to burn that brawny, blond bridge to the ground. Erik can apologize all he wants, but to quote her rebel leadershed just as soon kiss a Wookiee. Not even the most sophisticated of Sadies superstitious rituals could have predicted such a disastrous reunion. But while she refuses to acknowledge the siren call of Eriks steely forearms or the way his voice softens when he offers her his sweater, Sadie cant help but wonder if there might be more layers to her cold-hearted nemesis than meet the eye. Maybe, possibly, even burned bridges can still be crossed. To read Mara and Hannahs stories look for the novellas Under One Roof, available now, and Below Zero, coming soon from Berkley!

It was ok! They had cute chemistry + the cheesy “stuck in an elevator” was expectedly cheesy. But most of the plot was one big misunderstanding that ended up being super ??? Why won‘t they just talk to each other instead of interrupting each other and just looking away, “you know what you did” pouting? *sigh*

More meh 😑 This time big man engineer + tiny woman engineer stuck in an elevator for a bit. More miscommunication trope. Very formulaic. 🤷🏽‍♀️🎧

🎧 The 2nd STEMinist novella & the 2nd best of the bunch.

3 scientist girlfriends, 3 fun stories.

This one involves Sadie a civil engineer who‘s heart was broken by Erik. She‘s now stuck in a tiny NY elevator with Erik who she still sees as her nemesis for stealing her ideas. This is the first time she‘s seen him since she walked out, not looking back.

Trope - miscommunication.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

I love the description of these short stories as “STEMinist”, Hazelwood somehow addresses issues women experience in STEM careers whilst wrapping it up in a cute romance story.

This STEMinist novella‘s about Sadie stuck in an elevator w/ Erik. About a month ago, they spent one day & one night together. He supposedly betrayed her, so she ghosted him. How will they move on from their past together?

The characters were cute & funny, but they got kind of annoying b/c of their non-communication. I liked the separate time frames. I‘m so glad they didn‘t say “I love you” at the end; I would‘ve been even more annoyed.

WOW. I'm really upset that I did not find Ali Hazelwood sooner. This book is a gem and I'm about to start the next novel.

I've decided to nominate myself as president of the Ali Hazelwood fan club, haha. Something about her hilarious sense of humor and quirky characters gets me every time. When Sadie was describing Erik and said something about how he looked "like his ancestors frolicked below the aurora borealis on their way to founding IKEA" I actually laughed out loud ?. This wasn't my fave of this novela series but damn do they always entertain me! ❤️

CaramelLunacy I just snorted at that. What a great description 2y

I love Ali Hazelwood's short stories and novels. They never disappoint. Like this one. It was so fun to read.

I wished for a little bit more character depth though I think Sadie is very likeable. And like the others, just too short. Wished for more.

This series of novellas is very fun! The MCs are all in STEM fields. I don‘t think this one was quite as good as the first one (tagged👇🏻) but it found its footing about 2/3 thru. This is because the first had a slow burn romance and this one was instalove told in past/present alternating chapters. The 1/3 was really great though and I‘ve already got the third in the trilogy on deck for today.

I‘m really loving short stories and novellas lately.

This was an enjoyable distraction from a full day of air travel. It was kind of predictable and neither character felt very developed, but I enjoyed it for what it was. Paired well with some #audioknitting while the kids had kindle time.

Though lighthearted & enjoyable, this second in the series was not quite what I hoped for. The premise starts out great & the character interaction is well done, but it felt like it was missing the middle. There wasn't really any development of the situation & everything moved with jolting changes. Sadie seemed overly naive & should have known a few of the things that were used as plot devices. This made the writing feel a little lazy.

This was just okay. I think the STEMinista novella series has been a tale of diminishing returns. They‘re too short to really develop the romance sufficiently and the characters are all too interchangeable. Both female & male MCs basically have the same physical and personality traits, minus having different hair colors/styles. I really liked The Love Hypothesis and I think the premises of the novellas were interesting but ultimately underwhelming

Another cute Ali Hazelwood novella. I think this one might be my second favorite after Under One Roof. Engineer Sadie finds herself stuck in the elevator with her hot one night stand who screwed over her career--or did he? This suffers a bit for length and lack of development as with most of these novellas, but they're cute and fun so I'm going with that rather than over analyzing them.

This was a fun rom-com novella. This is book 2 in a trilogy about women in STEM and the guys they fall for. This one features a Meet Cute, a not quite one night stand, a big misunderstanding and a stuck elevator. These do work as standalones. A fun quick 4⭐️ read.

4/5

Another STEM romance audiobook from Ali Hazelwood. When the power on her block goes out, Sadie ends up trapped in an elevator with a rival engineer who she hooked up with and then ghosted when he betrayed her trust.

I didn't like this one quite as much as Under One Roof, but I still enjoyed it. I do think it's very cool that this series is being released as audio first with different narrators for each book.

This audio kept me company on the drive to/from my parents for a Mother‘s Day visit. A steamy novella about a couple with a short past, stuck in an elevator in the building they work at.

DO NOT SLEEP on these steamy STEM novellas by Ali Hazelwood, man 🥵🥵🥵 This time, two engineers with a past are stuck together on an elevator—a sweet, short, spicy enemies to lovers story. Again, the only thing that gave me pause was that the main characters have the exact same body types as the previous books. Not a huge deal but I‘d love to see more diversity at some point.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Damn, Hazelwood is cranking out the stories in 2022 - three novellas AND a novel! This is the second novella set in her STEMinist world. Civil engineers Sadie and Erik aka “Corporate Thor” 😂 find themselves stuck in an elevator and it‘s clear they‘ve had a falling out. Through flashbacks and present day, the full picture develops. Cute little contemporary romance. #opendoor

The second novella in The STEMinist series by Ali Hazelwood is possibly the first lovers to enemies story I've read, and moves between two days, one which also has a forced proximity situation.

This comes out March 8 and I listened to the audio read by Meg Sylvan.
