Have I Told You This Already?
Have I Told You This Already?: Stories I Don't Want to Forget to Remember | Lauren Graham
25 posts | 27 read | 9 to read
Candid, insightful, and wildly entertaining essays about life, love, and lessons learned as an actress in Hollywood, from the beloved star of Gilmore Girls and New York Times bestselling author of Talking as Fast as I Can. With her signature sense of humor and down-to-earth storytelling, Lauren Graham opens up about her years working in the entertainment businessfrom the sublime to the ridiculousand shares personal stories about everything from family and friendship to the challenges of aging gracefully in Hollywood. In "RIP Barneys New York," she writes about an early job as a salesperson at the legendary department storeand the time she inadvertently shoplifted; in "Ne Oublie" she warns us about the perils of coming from an extremely forgetful family; and in "Actor-y Factory" she recounts what a day in the life of an actor looks like (unless youre Brad Pitt). Filled with surprising anecdotes, sage advice, and laugh-out-loud observations, Graham's latest collection of all-new, original essays showcases the winning charm and wit that she's known for.

Lauren Graham's books may not be the deepest autobios, but nice little snapshots into her life that any fan of hers would enjoy. My favorite chapters were "But I played one on TV" where she talks about how her life has been scrutinized for how 'motherhood' has or hasn't played a role in her reality. Also "Forever 32" because I'm currently 32 and loved hearing about how her perspective has changed since she was that age.

Book #77
4.5/5
Another great collection of essays by the fast talking TV mom (and so much more) Lauren Graham? Count me in every time. A big part of Lorelai is Lauren herself, and I love Lorelai, so it's a win-win.
As always, when consuming celebrity memoirs, I recommend the audio book.

Time to catch up on all my June #bookspin books. Listed to this one over audio. It was a quick, easy listen. I loved Graham in Gilmore Girls & Parenthood. If you‘re a fan of her work then it‘s a good listen. I enjoyed listening to her insights & stories about being & becoming an actress. #Nonfiction2023 prompt: Big Yellow Taxi

3½ ✨

A fun, light-hearted listen that made me smile. And honestly that was all I was looking for when I pressed play on this one.
I did however liked 'Talking as Fast as I Can' more. This was a good add-on just maybe a bit too short.

Another fun collection of essays from Lauren Graham 🙂

My only gripe is I would like more mention of Gilmore Girls - a whole book about her experience on the show would be just fine with me 😄

I enjoyed listening to Lauren tell her stories.

She was supposed to be at a book festival I'm attending later this month but is no longer on the schedule...such a bummer.

Lauren Graham always seems like she‘d be a fun person to know. She tells her stories in a breezy way that I like. I also like how she protects the privacy of the people she knows while still getting at the heart of the story. The next book of hers, I‘m going with audio as I think she‘d be good at that. I listened to Jackson Browne instead of a book on my #audiowalk.

TheBookHippie I love Jackson Browne and Lauren Graham. 13mo
KathyWheeler @TheBookHippie Me too. I don‘t know what put me in such a Jackson Brown mood, but I was really in one. 13mo

KathyWheeler @TheBookHippie My phone sometimes does this weird thing where I‘ll put it on shuffle and it only plays specific artists. One time it only played Warren Zevon and another it alternated between Wilco and The White Stripes. That‘s not what happened here though. 13mo
TheBookHippie @KathyWheeler I get that too yesterday I had The Eagles and Olivia Newton John 🤣👏🏼 13mo

Settling in with Lauren Graham for a nice, relaxing, and quiet evening. I know everyone knows her from The Gilmore Girls, but I didn‘t watch that much. Instead, I liked her in Parenthood.

Bklover This sounds great! 13mo
KathyWheeler @Bklover I think she‘s fun to read; she‘s got a quick, breezy way of writing. 13mo

KathyWheeler @mcctrish Weirdly, although I think her books would be fabulous on audio (especially if she was the narrator), I keep getting them as ebooks instead. 13mo
mcctrish She does narrate them, I read and own Someday, Someday, Maybe and listened to Talking as fast as I can 13mo
KathyWheeler @mcctrish I‘ll have to listen to one of her books then. 13mo

Just what the doctor ordered. I won‘t remember much of it, but I do feel as if I spent time with a friend, chuckling now and again. She‘s delightful.

Lauren Graham is always entertaining. This short collection of anecdotes is just as much fun as her other essay collections and I enjoyed my quick read. It's always best to listen to her books as I just love how her personality comes shining through so well in her narration. I'm not typically one who loves random little stories about random celebrity lives, but I'll always make an exception for her.

Spending time listening to Lauren gab is like my fave Brooklyn bakery - it‘s just fun. There‘s nothing really ground breaking to be gained from this little book, just funny stories & occasional life lessons. If you‘re a fan of Gilmore Girls, she‘s basically Lorelei in real life. If you haven‘t seen Gilmore Girls and also are a book nerd, I highly recommend it. 💖

I enjoyed this one, though not as much as Talking as Fast as I Can. I do want to go and watch Gilmore Girls again now lol

Terra, as usual, just wishes I‘d put the phone/book down and pet her.

I absolutely love listening to Lauren Graham narrate her own interesting stories. She seems so personable and always makes me smile. You do not have to be a Gilmore Girls fan, though I very much am, to truly enjoy her stories.

I'll agree with other reviewers that this isn't her strongest collection. As a fan though, listening to her tell stories about her life is always a great escape. I highly recommend the audiobook because she reads it and that just makes the experience more enjoyable in my opinion.

Listened to this relatively short memoir while cleaning and stitching over the weekend. The latest from Graham, I found this entertaining enough with a few gems folded in. Not earth shatteringly good or insightful, but if you‘re a fan of her or her shows, you will most likely enjoy hearing her unique voice again.

Thanks to Libro.fm for this free audiobook!

Least favorite of all her books so far. If it wasn't audio (her own narration) I would have abandoned it.
