32 Third Graders and One Class Bunny
32 Third Graders and One Class Bunny: Life Lessons from Teaching | Phillip Done
10 posts | 10 read | 4 to read
Now in paperback, to tie in with the publication of Phillip Dones new hardcover Close Encounters of the Third Grade Kind from Center Street, 32 Third Graders and One Class Bunny brings the joys and terrors of elementary school back to life (The Washington Times). Phil Done has taught elementary school for twenty years. He fixes staplers that wont staple, zippers that wont zip, and pokes pins in the caps of glue bottles that will not pour. He has sung Happy Birthday 657 times. 32 Third Graders and One Class Bunny is for anyone who has ever taught childrenor been to third grade. This collection of tightly written, connected essays is an unexpected pleasurean absolute joy (Tucson Citizen) and a testament to the kids who uplift usand the teachers we will never forget. With just the right mix of humor and wisdom, Done reveals the enduring promise of elementary school as a powerful antidote to the cynicism of our times.

I loved this book!!! Probably not the best time to be reading it when I am missing all my students so much. Every story he told, I pictured one of my kiddos in that same situation!! It is true every school has those kids and we wouldn‘t change any of them because they are what makes our days crazy and amazing at the same time!! I highly recommend this book!!! 🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰

This quote really speaks to me today as a teacher on the first day of school. A teacher, mind you, whose pullout resource support is on maternity leave. Today I was told there‘s no replacement for her indefinitely which is not only illegal, but also unfair to the kids. #quotsy #quotsysept18 #class #teachersoflitsy

hermyknee 🤬🤯 I get so angry when they won‘t support the kids (and US!) the way we need them to. (They = The Man. The Administration. The Jerks.) Are you in a union state, and if not (like me), have you talked to your teachers association rep? 6y
Purrfectpages @hermyknee yes, I‘m good friends with our Union president, so I contacted her about what‘s going on. I‘ll do whatever I can to fight, I just need to know all the facts first. Unfortunately I also work in a district where parental involvement is very low, so they probably won‘t even know or care. 😞 6y
hermyknee @Purrfectpages I‘m right there with you. It‘s so tough. 😞 The #teachersoflitsy are here for you! And I‘m betting the #LitsyJusticeLeague will support you, too! (Shoutout @Alicia !) (edited) 6y

Purrfectpages @hermyknee I didn‘t even know #litsyjusticeleague was a thing! 6y
TK-421 That sucks 😟 Hope you the union can help set things right! 6y
Alicia Sending lots of love from the #LitsyJusticeLeague! ❤️💓❤️ @Purrfectpages @hermyknee 6y
mrp27 Yikes that's awful! Despite this, best wishes for a great school year. 6y
Joy0201 What a stressful beginning! I would contact a union/advocacy group and see what they say. 6y

This book saw me laugh and cry. It saw me sigh with relief. Relief that I am NOT the only teacher who said the wrong thing, who was too tired to do the lab and decided to show Bill Nye videos instead, who buys clothes and food for their students, who is slow at grading, who struggled in math, too. I am
NOT the only teacher who has favorites and who said a bad word when I banged my knee on the desk for the thousandth time. We all do. Whew.

Teacher books always make me feel better. Commiseration, I suppose, along with the ability to laugh at ourselves. Also, “Let‘s Pretend This Never Happened” has me giggling to the point of tears. Not much of a self-help fan, but I love to laugh! Thanks for the giveaway and congrats!!! #10kgiveaway

I want to be in Mr. Done's class! I really enjoyed his collection of classroom anecdotes, many of which had me laughing, saying AMEN, or wiping away tears (sometimes all three at once!). It was an enjoyable way to decompress on my afternoon off. #teachersoflitsy #litsypartyofone

This was a fun read about the life of an elementary teacher. There were some parts that had a tone I wasn't fond of, but a lot of it seemed dead on and had me laughing. #audiobook

Serotonin Ooo, my sister is an elementary school teacher. Perhaps she'll enjoy this 😉 8y

This has to be my favorite book of all time. It may not be a literary masterpiece, but anytime I get the school year blues I get this out and read it and remember why it is I love teaching. Thank you Mr. Done for helping me find the joy again!
