These two gifts are so special they deserved their own post! 😍 I am so lucky to have gotten both of these yesterday! They're both illustrated, and are absolutely gorgeous! The Silmarillion has the most gorgeous painted edges that I've ever seen! 💕📚💕 #bookhaul #christmasbookhaul

Leftcoastzen Holy crap! Gorgeous! 2y
CocoReads My husband got the Silmarillion too. It is beautiful 2y
Daisey I really want this new edition of the Silmarillion, but I keep telling myself I don‘t need multiple copies. 2y
Branwen @Leftcoastzen RIGHT?! I can't stop staring at it! It's so beautiful! 😍 @CocoReads It really is a treasure! @Daisey I totally think you should get it! You deserve this beautiful edition! 💕 And if it makes you feel any better, this is now my third different edition of The Silmarillion! 😂 2y

For a "standard" edition, HarperCollins have done a great job. I love the design of the title page, the colouring of the map of Númenor, the blue titles and chapter headings, together with Lee's pencil illustrations, and a splash of red for the Ring verse ? It also has a ribbon bookmark, and Lee's colour paintings, which I've deliberately not posted as finding them as you read is a particular pleasure for me, and perhaps for you, too.

Bookwomble My only gripe is that the colour illustrations are printed on the same paper stock as the text, rather than on glossy. 2y
vivastory Will definitely be adding to my holiday list! I would buy it but right now the Cormac McCarthy 2 book set is at the top of my list 2y
Bookwomble @vivastory We all have our own priorities 😁 2y

vivastory Have you seen the special edition Silmarillion? 2y
tpixie Lovely 😍 2y
Bookwomble @vivastory No - deliberately so. But to expensive for me. Don't look at what you can't have! 😉 2y
vivastory It is pretty costly! I'm crossing my fingers that B&N will have their post Xmas 50% off hardcover sale again 2y
Bookwomble @vivastory Let's hope 😊🤞 2y
Bookwomble @vivastory On the other hand, I bought a first edition hardback when the Silmarillion was originally published, so that's it's own thing 😁 2y
The_Book_Ninja Lovely review. I‘ve read the Hobbit about 20 times. I think 2023 will be the year I take on LOTR 2y
Bookwomble @The_Book_Ninja I'm sure you'll love it 😊 2y

Fortunately, the publication date of 10th November 2022 is after the projected end of my two-month book-buying ban!
This is previously published Tolkien material, with new commentary by the editor, Brian Sibley, and new artwork by Alan Lee.
I'll be reading this rather than getting an A****n Prime subscription 🧐

Bookwomble "Fortunate" for the ban, that is, cos I would be breaking that mutha for a Tolkien! ? 2y

Bookwomble @TrishB Mrs B refuses to buy me any more books until I've read all the ones I already have! 😆 2y
TrishB Dear me……I have no response that might not invoke divorce proceedings. 2y
Bookwomble @TrishB Ha, ha! I shouldn't take anything for granted, but after 37 years together I'm not out looking for a solicitor! 😁 Fortunately, I have a bookseller who automatically orders me anything from the House of Tolkien - easy money 💸 2y
vivastory I know that the upcoming show is based on various materials, but is it at least partially based on this one? This is the first I have heard of this one. I am very very intrigued. Adding to my TBR. 2y
Bookwomble @vivastory I'm unsure about the show - there's the usual gnashing of teeth about it not being true to the source material, but that's impossible to really judge until the show airs. As it's set in the Second Age, I assume that Númenor will feature to some degree, but I'm not following the trailers and press so I don't know. I'm unlikely to see it as it's on A****n 😏 2y
vivastory I hear you about avoiding it because of it being on Amazon. I did notice that it covers the same period, the Second Age, that the show covers. From what I gather the show is more loosely inspired by various source materials, but it seems like it will draw a lot of inspiration from this one. I will def. be checking it out though. Thanks for posting about it. 2y
