The appeal of this dark comic described as Richard Starry‘s Busy Town meets Dexter is in the disconnect between illustrations that (mostly) wouldn‘t look out of place in a children‘s book with a storyline about a gruesome murder spree in a small town & a 🐻 who is concerned that her own murderous ways are on the verge of being uncovered.

That said, I thought this would have a more tongue in cheek vibe but this is just dark, which isn‘t my vibe.

My pick for April is the tagged, because I need more murderous bears and gory graphic novels in my life.

This was fun! It was like a call-back to the stories I‘d read my kids about cute animals and their lives in a small town. Except here we have serial killers. And Samantha is pissed that someone is murdering people in her hometown, which she never does; she goes to the big city for that. What will she do??

Whoo hoo I finally got a bingo 🤣🤣. The tagged book got me the bingo. What a weird, dark, DARK graphic novel. I loved it, but proceed with caution. If you don't like horror or gore or violence, I would stay away.

Serial killers, murder, and a cute little town à la Richard Scarry! Count me in cause I absolutely loved this book.

In fact, I want a copy to come back to later. This was epic and I don't want to share much to ruin the story, but if you don't mind a gruesome cute graphic novel, check this one out!

This graphic novel is wonderful! I love the contrast between the soft watercolor style of the artwork and the story. The book has great storytelling and had me on my toes with how gruesome and suspenseful it was. This book was great it imminently made me wanted to read the next book. Highly recommend. #graphicnovel #BeneathTheTrees

This is a twisted little tale, but it's been done before just in a slightly different format.

It was however entertaining and enjoyable

I stumbled upon this graphic novel at a local bookstore, and despite not knowing the author, I was instantly captivated by the storyline and artwork. Patton Oswalt‘s blurb sealed the deal for me: “Finally, murder and forensics are adorable.“ Count me in! #bookhaul

Disney meets serial killers in this cute but creepy story about a serial killer bear who is on the hunt for a different killer who's murdering people in his hometown.

I gave this volume 5 stars. The art style is amazing. The story is creepy and intriguing. I'm very excited to read more from this author and see more from the artist. My husband's really enjoying it, too.

This review is for the trade paperback of Beneath The Trees etc (pub date 9-17-2024). I just read the 6 issues that will comprise this volume. This came onto my radar a couple of days ago while listening to the most recent Books In the Freezer episode & Clay McLeod Chapman was raving about it. Described as Dexter meets Richard Scarry & this is pretty accurate. Although the ending felt a little rushed, this was a fun read with some solid issues.
