Overall thoughts? Any favorite parts?
I loved the banter between Seokga and Hani! Definitely looking forward to the sequel!

Listened to this one for #riseupreads - soft pick
There were parts I really enjoyed (like the world building) and parts that got on my nerves (like Hani's annoying gumiho friend) but overall it was just so slow moving. I needed the pace to pick up a bit. The ending intrigued me though so I will pick up the sequel when it comes out

Elements if this felt like a solid YA-style mystery. But the more adult elements of the romance felt misguided and a little silly, especially during a shockingly obvious murder investigation with a high body count. I feel like this is the type of drama style that‘d work as cheesy television, not as a book. 😅🤷🏻♀️🦊 #RiseUpReads

One book from an #AsianAuthor that I‘m reading this month for #RiseUpReads Sophie Kim is Korean-American 🇰🇷
Today: Finish the book tagged above. Work on some darning and crochet to help work through the post-book depression made worse by the fact that the next book isn‘t due until June. 😭 Also, clean and start on my research project that‘s due tomorrow. 😬

“The mortal realm of Iseung disgusts him, but there is one feature—and, mind you, one feature only—that he finds he does not loathe with the entire expanse of his bitter soul. Coffee.”
Obviously, I *must* love this book. :D

This book is all tell and no show. We're told about the interesting and amazing histories of the two main characters, yet the characters, a fallen god and a man-killing fox, sound and act like teenagers.
The world was interesting, if underdeveloped, and I liked the mix of Korean mythology and urban fantasy tropes.

This Korean mythology inspired K-drama in book form is quite entertaining—it has an angry, fallen god with a love for coffee, a gumiho in hiding who loves to annoy said god, & a shocking series of murders that promises to throw the world into darkness if the demon responsible isn‘t found & sent back to where it came from. Drama, drama, & more drama with a healthy dose of banter, smirking, eye rolling & falling in love (maybe) make for a fun read.
Starting this one today!
Once I stop staring at its gorgeous cover…
My absolute faves that I rewatch are Semantic Error, university enemies to lovers, and Kingdom, historical political drama with zombies.
