Mehso-so

Love them or hate them, Valente's stories are never boring. Or rather, they're never executed in boring ways. She's all about execution, this author, and it may resonate with the reader or not. This time, it was way too much form over substance. I'm aware it has a secondary reading—this being about Zelda Fitzgerald and her hubby—but I'm not submerged deep enough in the context to care. Barely so-so.

“It‘s all fucked anyway, you see? The end of the world already happened. It‘s happening all the time. It‘s gonna happen again. And again after that. Just when you think it‘s done falling on it‘s face, the world picks itself up and throws itself off a roof. Boom. Pavement. The world‘s ending forever and we‘re not even allowed to toast at her funeral. So we gotta do something else or she won‘t know we ever loved her.” 🍸

Finished with Samantha Bee, closing in on the half way point, drinking my favorite highly caffeinated citrus spice tea, and taking down a novella before midnight... #24in48

#CoolBooks #Fairy

Zelda Fitzgerald's life told as a fairy tale.
The inside is so classy.

Haven't read it yet, but going to soon.

Linsy I haven‘t read Valente yet, but as a fairytale lover, I really think I need to! 6y

Pickpick

Oof. Valente is hypnotic in this story about a hotel stuck like a pin through the world where the underworld lives in the subbasement and the Volstead Act is a fairy thing. Read it if you‘d like high octane aesthetic injected directly into your veins.

Catherynne Valente's books always have a beautiful #rhythminside. They deserve to be read out loud, so you can appreciate the #beautifullywrittenbook(s) in all their glory 👌

Cinfhen Not familiar with this author/ series! Pretty pic ❣️ 7y
Marchpane Can't wait for the Deathless sequel! 7y
erzascarletbookgasm We like this series, I think we‘re short of book four. 7y

Kalalalatja @Cinfhen she writes fantasy and very magical stories, so maybe not your typical genre. Her writing is absolutely beautiful though 👌 7y
Kalalalatja @Marchpane me neither! Do you know its release date, or haven't that been announced yet? 7y
Kalalalatja @erzascarletbookgasm it is such a great series! I love how Valente doesn't "dumb it down" but actually writes about hard and difficult stuff, even though it is for kids ? 7y
Marchpane Goodreads is showing the pub date as October 2018 for Matryoshka - not sure how reliable that is though! 7y
Kalalalatja @Marchpane here's to hoping 🤞 7y

This is one of the more #stranger books I remember having read. It almost felt like being drunk - everything went by so fast, it was a bit confusing, but also, a lot of fun 💃🥂

JenP Cover is pretty cool. 7y
JazzFeathers Thanks for the comment. I bought this a while back, but haven't read it yet 7y
Kalalalatja @JazzFeathers it is pretty great, but I think I read it a bit too quickly. Even though it is a short book, I wish I had taken more time with it 7y
Kalalalatja @JenP there's so many details in it, it is pretty great! 7y

I think these might be the most #artdeco 'ish books I have. I really like this art style, especially art deco patterns, so I would love more books with beautiful art deco covers 😍

#Fortheloveoffont - Spine edition
I am always drawn in by a interesting spine when I am in bookshops. I love beautiful books, and the spine is often a good indicator that a book has a lovely front cover 😍

#readJanuary

Lynnsoprano I wonder sometimes if publishers realize how important spines are in attracting attention to their books. 8y
mom2bugnbee @Lynnsoprano Agreed. I'm drooling over The Princess & the Goblin! 8y
LazyOwl Great spines, very enticing 8y

Kalalalatja @Lynnsoprano I think they must do, but in general it is as if there has been a greater focus on making books beautiful objects. So they must put some thoughts into the spines as well. It is the first thing we see of a book most of the time, so they are so important! 8y
Kalalalatja @mom2bugnbee it is from Folio Society. They make some lovely spines (and books) 👍 8y
Kalalalatja @LazyOwl thank you! 8y

I went out of my way to get this book (I'm not saying that it's the reason I went on a US holiday... but it was a bonus 😂) and I haven't read it yet... 🙈 my bad?

Liberty Same. Maybe I will read it next! 8y
[DELETED] 1409720085 This cover is gorgeous though. 8y
