The cat-centric adventure continues, in the all-ages follow-up to best-selling novelist Margaret Atwood's debut graphic novel. I liked the first volume okay, but the more it goes on the cheesier the puns get and the more it becomes obvious that the message comes first and the story comes second. It feels like things happen just to make a point about cat safety or bird conservation. For example, a cat child comes out of the woods so we can learn about people who toss kittens into the woods. There's no other point to this sequence. It's frustrating.

I find this graphic novel series from Margaret Atwood very disappointing. Art work is ok but the writing and story just don't work at all.

Angel Catbird is so campy that I think it qualifies for #sobaditsgood. #maybookflowers

I was hoping things would get better in volume two.

I was wrong.

minkyb Sorry. 7y
aeeklund Didn't attempt, but was curious. Good to know my suspicion was correct! Ugh. 7y
mandapants Barely made it through vol. 1 7y
Prairiegirl_reading After your review of the first I honestly thought maybe it'll get better. Sorry you didn't enjoy it. 😕 7y
MarriedtoMrT What @mandapants said. Thanks for reading so the rest of us didn't have to! 😉 7y
night_shift Yeah, I didn't really care for the first one. If I see the second one in the library, I might pick it up but I won't be putting a hold on it. Kinda disappointed. 7y
Eyelit I concur. I picked up volume two from the library thinking 'surely it has to be better...' only to be bitterly disappointed 😔 7y
RealLifeReading @Eyelit i wonder if no one at Dark Horse dared to offer criticism on her series and attempt to steer her in a better direction... 7y
RealLifeReading @UnidragonFrag don't bother picking it up! 7y
night_shift Wow, seriously? Haha.. ok! 7y

So I love Margaret Atwood, love some comics, but am not usually into the pulpy ones. It took most of volume one for me to get on board with it, but I'm really starting to enjoy it now. #pulpygoodness #alwayswiththemissions 😅

Super campy - but intentionally. 😝

LectricSheep Margaret Atwood could sell a book of her to-do lists and I would be at the midnight release party. 😍 7y
AmandaL @LectricSheep 😂 I'd definitely preorder it. 😂 7y

Okay. I love Margaret Atwood. Adore her. I generally have a high tolerance for camp. But this is just dumb. I can't do it. I should have known after the first one but I decided to give it more of a try. My tipping point was the introduction of a second female love interest, who immediately insists that the main guy should mate with her, leading to an instant showdown between the two ladies over him. I hate that shit.

The Fireman sucked me right in and I kind of just want to be reading that, but this one is almost due. Ridiculous cat/people/other hybrids, here I come!

Cutely hilarious 😹 a relaxing good joy. I loved the vampire cat theme. Great and beauteous scenes, plus a few 'behind the scenes' art sketches. The text bits on cat and bird info is neat to see along the way. The series feels very lovingly put together for a great action comic read. Super cool! 💓

Alisnazzy Now I want to play some Magic! I love that game! 7y
SpiderCrafts @Ambrosnazzy I'm hooked on the Puzzle Quest app adaptation 😸 gem matching for mana casts. Vampire themes are still popularly in. I loved the cat knights of the good old Mirrodin sets. 7y

I noticed Angel Catbird at the library, during my visit today 😸 taking it out indeed for a cheery time. I just noticed this is Book 2, but all good, as I newly and curiously read in.

Marmie7 I have vol 1- haven't read it yet. It looks fun! 7y

As if I wasn't going to love this! I enjoyed this more than the first volume, which was a bit slow for me, but this was great fun! Soooo many silly cat puns! 😻😸😹

The only thing that could make me more excited about a new Margaret Atwood graphic novel - one with a foreword by G. Willow Wilson 😍 😻 💘
