Death and the Afterlife
Death and the Afterlife: A Chronological Journey, from Cremation to Quantum Resurrection | Clifford A. Pickover
11 posts | 8 read | 14 to read
Throughout history, the nature and mystery of death has captivated artists, scientists, philosophers, physicians, and theologians. This eerie chronology ventures right to the borderlines of science and sheds light into the darkness. Here, topics as wide ranging as the Maya death gods, golems, and seances sit side by side with entries on zombies and quantum immortality. With the turn of every page, readers will encounter beautiful artwork, along with unexpected insights about death and what may lie beyond."

Once again I am a sucker for a fun cover. This book is a soft pick. It covers a large number of topics, and the pictures are wonderful. However each topic only gets a one page brief overview. A good coffee table book for reading for a moment here and there.

Makes me think of Carmilla! I LOVED the Audible rendition with David Tennant. 🧛🏽‍♀️

I can't remember who, but one of you amazing Littens turned me on to Neil Gaiman reading scary stories on YouTube and I'm hooked! Definitely my new favorite Halloween tradition! 🎃

Loved this macabre micro-history! From Natufian Funeral Flowers to Ondine‘s Curse, this book has a bit of it all. And it‘s just really beautiful inside and out. 💀

After finishing my second book and with eight hours under my belt, I‘m calling it a night. Happy reading, Littens!

The husband brought me #LitsyPartyofOne in bed! 🥰

I‘m finishing off some of the non-fic titles I started for #NFNov and then jumping into my TBR for the weekend.

Clwojick I live for Wholly Guacamole! I know it sounds totally weird, but one of my favourite combos is BBQ rice crackers, plain havarti and guac. 4y

this is such a fascinating topic and a subject I'm seriously way too interested in. The book itself is gorgeous and each page a visual treasure but it's less in-depth than a standard little kid primer. ONE PAGE per topic and it's the most cursory of explanations. Real disappointment.

tsemoana The cover is fantastic! Too bad about the contents 8y

Came across this gem while reorganizing my shelves the other day...here's my review from last year:

Quick read, great for jumping in and out of. Fun, informative, creative timeline layout. Thorough yet concise. It'll open doors for further study and is worth all the uneasy glances you'll receive!
