Inspector Grant is on vacation, on a train back home to Scotland for some well-deserved, and much-needed rest, but his vacation is cut short when one of his fellow passengers is found dead. Grants suspicions are only deepened by the strange poetry that the deceased had scrawled before his death, and he finds himself drawn into one of the most bizarre mysteries of his career. I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join in if you want!

Here are my choices for #CloakandDaggerChristmas . In all honesty, I think I‘ll only manage one, but we‘ll see!

🕵🏼‍♂️Tey = Golden Age Mystery
🕵🏼‍♂️James = Set in a Different Country
🕵🏼‍♂️Maron = Start of a New Series
🕵🏼‍♂️Swanson = Amateur Detective (though I think maybe this is a cheat and a thriller, not detective novel...

merelybookish These look great! And I hear you on not getting everything read but good to be prepared. 🙂 2y
Ruthiella @merelybookish Maybe I‘ll surprise myself and read ‘em all! 2y

They were all wrong about hell, he thought. Hell wasn't a nice cosy place where you fried. Hell was a great cold echoing cave where there was neither past nor future; a black, echoing desolation. Hell was concentrated essence of a winter morning after a sleepless night of self-distaste.

Pickpick

This was my first by Josephine Tey and probably won't be the last. I'm always on the lookout for good vintage mysteries and this was excellent. Lovely descriptions of Scotland (Tey clearly wasn't a devotee of independence though!) and a slow-burn story that's all about the puzzle. Photo is of the singing sands I visited last weekend in Kentra Bay, Ardnamurchan.

LeahBergen And now I‘m looking forward to this one. 👍🏻 5y

Thank you so much, @Sarah83 for the wonderful book mail! A gorgeous #FolioSociety edition of a Josephine Tey novel, postcards, a bookmark, and a bunch of new fruit teas to try. I love the Jane Austen address book to keep all my Litsy addresses in (what a great idea)!

You‘ve made my day ❤️❤️ (and it didn‘t take 3 months to arrive like last time 😂😂).

TrishB How lovely ❤️ 6y
Sarah83 So glad it arrived so fast and safe this time. Hope you like everything. 😍 I had to think about you, when I saw this cute address book. 😉 I am using a penguin notebook with a Sherlock Holmes cover for my addresses.😉 6y

Here's my attempt at a #bookrainbow. This was harder than I thought it would be! #somethingforsept #septphotochallenge #day16

megt I'm super curious about the Christmas crime stories. Is it a collection of holiday crime/mysteries? 8y
shawnmooney Gorgeous! 8y
ValerieAndBooks Pretty! I noticed they all have slipcovers -- same publisher and if so which one? 8y

PurpleyPumpkin @megt Yes, it's exactly that. It includes such noted authors as Sara Paretsky, P.D. James, Arthur Conan Doyle, and many more! Great to get me into the holiday spirit. 🎄 8y
PurpleyPumpkin @ValerieAndBooks These are all Folio Society books. I think that's why I had such a hard time building my rainbow because I was trying to stick with just Folio volumes. It was challenging but fun! 8y
ValerieAndBooks They are gorgeous indeed. And, now, looking at them again with my reading glasses, I can see their imprint on the spines 🤓! 8y
