Since it is 30 years old this year I am calling this a #truecrime classic.
A friend gave this to me shortly after it first came out. I remember reading this and blocking out the world. I was working for a motorcycle roadracing team at the time and I sat in the pits (very noisy) and read this straight through.
I passed on my copy eons ago - this photo is from online.

Omg @teebe!!!! This is a fantastic box. Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness. I'm so excited to have a Regan!! Both books are high on my TBR, and I can't wait to dig in to this candy bar. The troop leader notebook and pen are adorable, and I can't get over the Wonder Woman pen!! And the bookmarks! My heart! So cute. You're the best. ā¯¤ļø¸

teebe @callielafleur Yep, we love our coffee crisp here. Maybe you can find it in specialty candy stores? I know in Canada we can find American candies in certain candy stores. 6y

This took me a month to read. I thought it was very well written, and although I agree that it was confusing at times, I knew that ahead of time so it didn‘t bother me. What ultimately keeps this from being a pick is the overwhelming detail Bledsoe went into. His decision to include so much family history made sense as far as the storyline, but I think he could have been cut a lot of it out to make the story not drag on so much.

This quote kept coming to mind as I read this #truecrime book about multiple murders within one Southern family in the early 1980's. While these people fulfilled stereotypes of batshit crazy "kissin' cuzzins" in many ways, the fascinating story is ultimately a tragic one. I couldn't look away. Think Steel Magnolias meets Jerry Springer.

Over the years, any time I had to see a new doctor and they came in for the "meet and greet" where they ask about family history, I warned them they would need a flow chart to figure it out...and if they weren't from the south, they never believed me. But after five minutes, they would leave and come back in with a legal pad to take notes. ??? (edited) 6y

I‘m wondering how I don‘t remember this case. So many family members and people related through marriage are killed. I am loving the writing style. Bledsoe throws in a few murders then develops all the characters and then suddenly more murders and all the pieces fit together. It is frightening look at what people with mental illness are capable of. And the main character hates her ex and loves her cousin?!?! #kisskissbangbang #tuneintonovember

Mdargusch I had to keep this photo handy while listening to this on audiobook @kaye because I couldn‘t keep the characters straight- there are so many. Also I would‘ve said ā€Susie Newsome Lynchā€¯ but that darn word limit restricts me. 6y

Kaye Yea I remembered reading it so long ago that when I re-read it, all I could remember was Delores and her daughter. I had no clue who the killer was. Jerry Bledsoe is such a good writer ! 6y
